2 Tim. 2:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
In this paragraph Paul is prophesying about a future time. He is warning Timothy, a true believer, about men who have a "Form of godliness". This would imply men who are religious in my view.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
This isn't the first time Paul has warned about religious men.
2 Cor. 11:12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
Paul is speaking again, of religious men. Men who claim to be true believers but are not.
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Jesus also warned of this very thing.
Matt. 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I (Jesus) am Christ; and shall deceive many.
I find these Word's of Jesus extraordinary. Of all the things HE could have warned HIS People about, I mean He could have warned of Jews, or Atheists, or Islam, or porn, or money, but HE didn't. The greatest threat for a disciple of His to take heed of, according to His own Words, are men who come in His Name, who preach He is truly the Messiah.
Is this not the very definition of a modern "Christian"?
If you think about it, isn't this theme present through out the Bible? Who called for the killing of Jesus? Heathens, or those who claimed to be God's people? Who dropped Jeremiah into the septic tank, Gentiles or Jews? This theme goes all the way back to Abel who was killed, not by non-religious men, or wild animal, but he was condemned and killed by his own "christian" brother.
So why are we to take heed of religious men? Because of deception, Yes?
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
What is deception?
The Greek for deceive = planao = to roam from safety, truth or virtue, go astray, seduce, wander, be out of the way.
So to deceive someone, would be to convince them of something that isn't "true". So then if we are to "Take Heed" that men coming in Christ's Name doesn't deceive us, that would mean being careful self proclaimed "Christians" don't convince us of something about Christ/God that isn't True.
This would mean that the "GOAL" of the master deceiver, satan itself, is to cause us to believe things about the Word of God/Christ, that are not true.
This is confirmed in Gen. 3 when God showed the very first deception in which satan went about to convince Eve that God was a Liar, and that God's instructions made her blind. And also, satan went after the woman/bride/church, not Adam himself. satan deceived to woman who then shared this same deception with those who trusted her.
This is what Paul was warning Timothy about in 2 Tim. 3. So how was Timothy to be protected from the deceivers who claimed to be of God?
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
So Paul is saying to "Continue" in "ALL SCRIPTURE".
Jesus said the same thing. "Man shall not live by Bread alone, but by Every Word which proceeds from the mouth of God"
And again;
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Set us free from what? Lies being told about the Word of God/Christ from men who come in their name.
Eph. 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Lies about God in our mind)
The greatest danger for God's People isn't world governments, Atheists, Islam, etc. The greatest danger for the true believer, are lies about God in our mind.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (God's Definition, not mans)
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (Love God with all thy heart, and Love thy neighbor as thy self, as defined by the God of Abraham)
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, (God's Word is Truth) wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet ( protecting the mind) of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (Every Word)
You would think this topic would be discussed on forums like this again and again, to help each other in the battle against deception. But it isn't. No one, or at least few, want to even discuss doctrines of the religions of the land. Every self proclaimed "christian" on the planet claims to be right, and they disagree with every religion which doesn't adopt their doctrines. No one can be corrected, no one can be wrong. There is nothing but religious men, who come in Christ's Name, defending their religious doctrines despite the scriptures. (For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers,)
The Scriptures say satan deceives the whole world. I think I can accurately say that HE isn't speaking of the trees and goats, but of men. We all have been, and still have deceit within us. Many believe this verse is for everyone else but them, sadly. They claim belief, but only for some of God's Words. The Word of God, which became Flesh, is the Light to expose this deceit.
Jesus once said;
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Brothers, we all have deceit in us that is holding us captive to deception and falsehoods. To believe we don't, is to deny the Holy Scriptures. Jesus has provided the cleansing, given us the Words God gave Him to give us, and has shown us the way to Salvation. (I am the Way, walk even as I walk) Not living by the dictates of this religious franchise or that, not by the words of this famous theologian or that Minister of Righteousness. But as He and His Servant Paul teaches.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Let's come to HIS Light, that our thoughts and deeds may be made manifest, so we can see if they are from God or the religious spirit of this world. Let us take the doctrines of the Lands we are born into, and expose them to the Truth of the Life and Spirit of the Lord's Christ that we may know if they are from HIM or the "other religious voice" in the garden.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
