Why Do Things Happen?

We all, at some point, wonder why things happen in our lives. We regret our past decisions, and we might wonder "Why did you lead me down that path, Lord?" or "Why did you allow that to happen to me, Lord?" But we have to think about it: did God really lead us to make those mistakes? Or was it our faulty human nature we were following? Maybe we listened to our own voices rather than His.

I can definitely relate to this. I still don't understand why I did some things a couple of years ago that turned out to be huge mistakes. I used to think God meant for me to go down the path I took, but now I think that perhaps I was only following my own inner voice. After all, my conscience had been warning me about it for a while, but I didn't listen as I should have...instead telling myself that maybe the things I was suspicious of had changed or were only being overlooked. I was naive. I was VERY wrong. And I ended up struggling to forgive other people who lost my trust, as well as myself for making the wrong choices.

Now, some good things did come from the path I took as well. But were any of those things worth the pain and grief I felt afterwards? Probably not. I guess at least I learned a lesson and will try my best not to repeat those mistakes.

Here's my advice: always be careful when you have the option to take (or not take) a path in your life because it could have lasting consequences. Pray for God's guidance and allow Him to lead you rather than your own ideas. And always listen to your conscience!
