Gen Z sometimes mislabels as well. My husband and I are in a board game group with mixed ages. One of the 18 year olds (Gen Z) called someone born in 1976 a "Boomer"! 1976 is pure Gen X. People these days tend to just think anyone over 40 is a Boomer and anyone under 40 is a Millennial, but they forget entirely about Gen X and Gen Z. I'm almost 38, and I'm a Millennial - but I have no debt (I graduated right BEFORE the recession), and avocado toast was never a thing. I did get participation trophies growing up, though. My husband is Gen X (45 years old), and my mom was actually a member of the frugal Silent Generation, so I'm mostly anomalous. My dad's a Boomer though, and my Gen X husband's parents are both Boomers as well.
Silent - 1928 to 1945
Boomer - 1946 to 1964
Gen X - 1965 to 1980
Millennial - 1981 to 1996
Gen Z - 1997 to 2012
Gen Alpha - 2013 to present
