Gunmen Attack Armenian, Chaldean Churches in Iraq

Gunmen attacked two churches in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul Tuesday in the latest violence against Iraq’s minority Christian community, witnesses said. Members of the churches, one Armenian, the other Chaldean, said gunmen burst in, forced people to leave and set off explosions inside the buildings, damaging them but hurting no one.

"Gunmen entered the church at about 4:30 pm (1330 GMT),” said Father Raghid Aziz Kara at the Chaldean church. “They gathered those present in one room and planted explosive charges in different parts of the building,"

Aziz told AFP, "We were then taken outside and the armed men set off the devices. We heard three blasts.”

It's terrible isn't it? I also am praying for the Egyptian Copts who are routinely being kidnapped in Egypt and forced to convert to Islam! :o

How does one force one to convert to Islam? I would think that if you didn't deny Christ they would kill you.

Sadly, many people are unprepared for martyrdom....and when bent over the executioners beheading block, some of them sign the paper stating their denial...sad but true...Pray for them. Pray for strength and for glory and for the salvation of all ...including their captors.

How does one force one to convert to Islam? I would think that if you didn't deny Christ they would kill you.

Within the last 100 years 75% of the Armenians that refused to surrender to Islam and Communism have been martyred for their faith. Can you image, 1 out of every 3 Armenians you will meet has a story to tell about not only about a martyr but a familiy member.

I read more into the article that was an Armenian Catholic church that was bombed. But, it doesn't make the situation any different.

That is so sad. I pray for all the churches that face persecution.

People don't go to church on sundays anymore in Iraq because they are afraid.
The Armenian Church in Baghdad is closed down.
