Heheheh. I LOVE doing Be thou my vision in 4/4 rather than 3/4 on guitar with full band... but I'm worried about being pronounced anathema by those on here who don't like modern worship music, so I didn't say that ;)

Of course, organs make all hymns sound good!

NO! Small electronic organs make all hymns sound bad! Take it from someone who knows... Who would vastly prefer his parish to have a piano!

The only time I've ever gotten goosebumps while singing in a choir was singing "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" (which, despite being written by Luther, is such a great hymn that it is even in the Roman Catholic hymnal) in an ecumenical service with people from various churches in my town.

Be Thou My Vision is one of my favorites. You know it used to be a battle hymn sung by the Celts before they went into war.
I also love Lord of the Dance, but my church hasn't sung it yet.
All Creatures of my God and King
I also like a song we sing from our prayer books. I don't know what it's called (I'm a new Anglican. I haven't even been confirmed, but I wanna be)
Holy Holy Holy Lord, God of power and might
Heaven and earth are full of your glory,
Hosanna in the Highest,
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
Hosanna in the Highest

O Come Immanuel
What Child Is This
My Jesus
It Is Well
I Will Enter His Gates
As The Deer
Silent Night
I also like the words of the following song: You will go out with joy, and be led forth with peace. The Mountains and the hills shall break forth before thee. There will be shouts of joy and all the trees of the field, will clap, will clap their hands
And all of the trees will clap their hands, the trees of the fields will clap their hands, the trees of the fields will clap their hands, and you'll go out with joy.
I also like alot of the psalms, but putting them to modern music is like trying to breed a mushroom rose hybrid. It doesn't work.
Slainte!

I know this hasn’t been posted in for over 7 months but never mind……..

3 of my favourites for you.

Abide With Me Hymn

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word;
But as Thou dwell’st with Thy disciples, Lord,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings,
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea—
Come, Friend of sinners, and thus bide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile;
And, though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee,
On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Jerusalem

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountain green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

The Day Thou Gavest

The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
The darkness falls at Thy behest;
To Thee our morning hymns ascended,
Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

We thank Thee that Thy church, unsleeping,
While earth rolls onward into light,
Through all the world her watch is keeping,
And rests not now by day or night.

As o’er each continent and island
The dawn leads on another day,
The voice of prayer is never silent,
Nor dies the strain of praise away.

The sun that bids us rest is waking
Our brethren ’neath the western sky,
And hour by hour fresh lips are making
Thy wondrous doings heard on high.

So be it, Lord; Thy throne shall never,
Like earth’s proud empires, pass away:
Thy kingdom stands, and grows forever,
Till all Thy creatures own Thy sway.
