Critics of the Biden administration noted in the aftermath of the attack that Iran has had nearly five months to legally expand its development of drone and ballistic missile technology after “transition day,” October 18, 2023. As part of former President Barack Obama’s catastrophic 2015 “Iran nuclear deal,” known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the United Nations Security Council imposed limits on Iran’s ballistic missile and drone programs. The signatories to the agreement chose October 18 as an automatic expiration deadline, presumably expecting Iran to abide by the deal and earn the termination.
That's our Joe.

I thought that the United States had withdrawn from the JCPOA in 2018, were there a la carte provisions?

The headline alone is filled with so many mistakes it's hard to take anything in that article seriously.

The sanctions (UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015)) were on exports/imports of Iranian missile and drone technology. So, they have zero to do with Iranian strikes at present. Nothing in those sanctions prevented Iran from building the short/medium range ballistic missiles and long range drones it used against Israel.

Biden didn't "let" the UN sanctions expire, and it couldn't have moved to renew them. The sanctions are tied to the JCPOA and given that the US withdrew from the agreement, it has not standing or ability to re-impose them. (If the US hadn't withdrawn from JCPOA, then the 'snapback' provision on Iranian sanctions could have been initiated. The Trump administration tried this in 2020. And completely failed).

For it's own part, the US maintained (and even increased) its sanctions targeting Iran and Iranian missile programmes in 2021, 2022 and 2023. So did the EU (collectively) and individual European states.

Someone else let this horse bolt through the stable gate years ago. Trying to pin this on the Biden administration enters the realm of alternative reality. A very dumb one at that.

Doesn't matter. From now on, in the mind of the average Breitbart reader, Joe Biden basically built the missiles and drones himself and pushed the launch button.

I find it absolutely hilarious that the article blames "President Barack Obama’s catastrophic 2015 “Iran nuclear deal,” known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action", but then also criticizes Biden for allowing this provision this "horrible" deal to expire.

Conservatives want their cake and to eat it too.

This deal is catastrophic! But also why did you let it expire???

Biden is a senile old fool! But also a deep state mastermind!!!

Trump is a good Christian Leader! But also we didn't vote for a pastor!!

^_^

I think Iran being a loose cannon is often times leveraged for hack partisan attacks "if you just would've left this thing in place that OUR guy did, we wouldn't have this problem with Iran, this is YOUR guy's fault for allowing it to lapse/withdrawing from it!"

Here's a piece of inconvenient info, Iran didn't ever give a hoot about the JCPOA under Obama or what remaining sanctions were left under Trump...they weren't taking any of seriously in the first place, and would behaving the same way right now regardless of whether or not certain sets of provisions were still in place...and the provisions that were in place were extremely weak, at best.

I did a pretty extensive post on it back in 2020

It'd be like if parents wanted to stop their kids for doing drugs and created a deal with their kids that entailed:
"We'll search room monthly and give you a 2 weeks heads up before we do"
"We won't look in that big jar marked 'drugs' on the shelf, that one's off limits for searches"
"We're also not going to look in the sock drawer, nor in that suspiciously earthy-smelling shoebox under the bed"
"We'll let your 4 friends who wear the Bob Marley shirts have a vote on what days we're allowed to search"
"If you comply with these ground rules, we'll give you an extra $100 a week allowance in the form of a bag of cash in front of your bedroom door"

Nobody would say the parents are taking that seriously or actually trying to do anything meaningful to address the issue.

It also deflects blame/attention from where it needs to be focused, on Iran. No US president (left or right) should be blamed for Iran's actions.

It's funny that we never seem to need to have these conversations about whether or not placate most other countries.

We've never had to say "Had Trump/Biden just kowtowed and kept paying off France and cut them some slack on their nuclear inventory & human rights abuses, they wouldn't be threatening to launch missiles at Norway right now"

Weird... It's almost like things just seem to work better when a country isn't led by theocratic psychopaths

I'm enjoying everybody dogpiling on this post by showing how insanely dishonest and divorced from reality it is. On top of the other comments, I'd like to point out that the author of the tweet in the OP has previously praised Trump's pulling out of the Iran deal:

as has the OP:
