I think Iran being a loose cannon is often times leveraged for hack partisan attacks "if you just would've left this thing in place that OUR guy did, we wouldn't have this problem with Iran, this is YOUR guy's fault for allowing it to lapse/withdrawing from it!"
Here's a piece of inconvenient info, Iran didn't ever give a hoot about the JCPOA under Obama or what remaining sanctions were left under Trump...they weren't taking any of seriously in the first place, and would behaving the same way right now regardless of whether or not certain sets of provisions were still in place...and the provisions that were in place were extremely weak, at best.
I did a pretty extensive post on it back in 2020
At least we have the Dominican Republic on our side. After walking out on the Iran agreement, Trump wants to make use of one of its provisions. Our friends and frenemies tell us to get bent. The United States was further isolated on Friday over its bid to reimpose international sanctions on...

It'd be like if parents wanted to stop their kids for doing drugs and created a deal with their kids that entailed:
"We'll search room monthly and give you a 2 weeks heads up before we do"
"We won't look in that big jar marked 'drugs' on the shelf, that one's off limits for searches"
"We're also not going to look in the sock drawer, nor in that suspiciously earthy-smelling shoebox under the bed"
"We'll let your 4 friends who wear the Bob Marley shirts have a vote on what days we're allowed to search"
"If you comply with these ground rules, we'll give you an extra $100 a week allowance in the form of a bag of cash in front of your bedroom door"
Nobody would say the parents are taking that seriously or actually trying to do anything meaningful to address the issue.
It also deflects blame/attention from where it needs to be focused, on Iran. No US president (left or right) should be blamed for Iran's actions.
It's funny that we never seem to need to have these conversations about whether or not placate most other countries.
We've never had to say "Had Trump/Biden just kowtowed and kept paying off France and cut them some slack on their nuclear inventory & human rights abuses, they wouldn't be threatening to launch missiles at Norway right now"
Weird... It's almost like things just seem to work better when a country isn't led by theocratic psychopaths
