What we expect doesn't enter into it. You don't even interpret the Bible according to Traditional Christian standards.

In terms of doctrine, I think that "outlier" is a friendlier word.

It's just a fact. Not saying you are right or wrong, just different. To start with, you are Protestants and accept the Doctrine of Sola Scriptura, which Traditional Christians do not. That puts you in a minority position to start with. Then, while being Protestants you accept the doctrines of literal inerrancy, perspicuity and self-interpretation which not even all Protestants subscribe to. You, in particular, are a 1611er, which makes you a rather rare bird amongst Christians.

Well, if you are not Protestant then you are not a Baptist, either, independent or otherwise. But it doesn't really signify because your beliefs about the Bible are the same.

So, why aren’t Baptist Protestants? Because Baptists have never been part of the Roman Catholic Church. Baptists never splintered from Catholicism (such as Lutherans and Episcopalians), nor have we splintered from the splinter groups (such as Methodists). Although this may sound far-fetched to some, history proves this to be true. In fact, it was Sir Isaac Newton who said, “The modern Baptists formerly called Anabaptists are the only people that never symbolized with the Papacy.”

Are you the only non-Protestant Baptist? Is it that you want to not be considered a Protestant for some reason even though you embrace Protestant doctrine? Very interesting. As for me, I don't want to be seen as speaking for my church, or my church having to share the abuse handed out in this forum for not "believing the Bible." There is an obvious clue in my screen name if you are all that interested.

That really is interesting. I really never thought about it that way--not from an historical viewpoint. My opinion was based on the fact that Baptists follow Protestant doctrine rather than Traditional Christian doctrine.
