Hello
@HopeSings, I want to say up front that I hate politics, especially today's, for most of the reasons that you've mentioned, in point of fact. I don't listen to national news broadcasts anymore (left or right), because they seem to have little to do with actual "news" and everything to do with "politics" instead (+ intentional fearmongering, of course).
Most of all, I am saddened to see the unloving division that politics so often brings to the last place that it should ever be, within the body of Christ. Oh, that all of us Christians would take seriously the commands/admonishments that are found in
Titus 3:1-2 about this, yes
That all said, the Bible calls us to be good citizens of whatever government/governing authority that we find ourselves under in this life. We have to live in this world as light and salt, which means that we are called to be the best examples that we can be of how to live as good citizens, first and foremost to honor and glorify the Lord (who establishes all of the governing authorities of men), and to help others, of course, be they believers or not (it should be noted here that we MUST obey God before/instead of man whenever what is demanded of us by a civil government violates His commands).
Here are some Scriptures to consider that look at all of this from different angles.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men."
Be subject ~for the Lord's sake~ to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, ~for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way~. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior.
Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,
Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”
For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.
He (your ruler) is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.
The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.
They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to ~speak evil of no one~, to ~avoid quarreling~, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward ~all~ people.
Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
6 Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
God bless you!!
