Well, I am but.... I LOVE Hush Puppies!

The first recorded use of the word “hushpuppy” dates back to 1899! Back then, hunters and fishermen would fry up a simple corn mixture and feed it to their dogs. The mixture was often leftover from having bread-coated or battered their own food. These easy, cheap treats were known to “hush the puppies”.

And that ain't all!

Snap Beans and Bacon
1/2 cup salt pork or bacon (about 3 ounces)
1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans or 2 packages (9 ounces each) frozen whole green beans
1 teaspoon sugar

Cook salt pork until crisp and brown; reserve salt pork and fat.

Place beans in salted water(1/2 teaspoon to 1 cup water).* Heat to boiling. Cook uncovered 5 minutes; cover. Cook until tender, 10 to 15 minutes, drain.

Toss cooked beans with reserved salt pork, fat and sugar.

TIP: *If using frozen beans, cook according to package directions.
