Hello all,

I was wondering what people think is a good/biblical timeline for someone going from considering the call to ministry and going into ministry/starting seminary. I've been at churches that do it differently. One smaller church of about 100 people that I used to be at would put someone in charge of a large part of the church and preaching after only 2 years or so, while the larger church I am at now of about 350 people has traditionally taken 7 or 8 years to start someone in seminary.

Curious what people's thoughts are.

Start day one.
Not at the top... but if you are called then service should begin ASAP.

Called to teach... start teaching Sunday School assistant.
Called to worship... bring a tambourine and go for it.(if appropriate for your congregation)
Called to evangelism... invite your neighbors to Church.

You feel Called... start.

My advice is..
- find out..about 'your spiritual gifts & ministry gifting'
- It might take some time (maybe years..)
--
Your profile indicates..Baptist.
- You might need to check..what requirements (Baptist) are.
--
More of His grace & guidance to you..
- as you begin ministry journey.

Hebrews chapter 5 . After 20 years students should be teachers of God's word. Seminary is traditions of men.

Studying sound doctrine is correct way.
Proverbs 19:2. Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that haste with his feet, sins.

Seminary isn't sound doctrine. It's precepts of men. Its indoctrination.

John 7:16. Jesus said, My doctrine is not Mine, but His that sent me.
7:17. If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine whether it be of God, or whether of Myself.

Those who teach sound doctrine, glorify God, and give God the credit.

Traditions of men seek self glory and self interest.
If church teaches traditions of men and false doctrine. It serves its own interests, and not Jesus.

One are brethren of God.
Others are false brethren.
Get the picture.
Take care.

You need to find a small church or group willing to give preaching experience.
You need to test your sense of calling by how you feel about your performance in the pulpit and the feedback you receive.
If you think you were awful, ask yourself, how badly you wanted to do better. The desire to preach well can be a sign of a true calling.
