• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I deal with PTSD and extreme anxiety that can at times make me feel sick. I am trying my best to focus on God's good will and trust Him, but even when I try and put my mind in the right place, my body still tenses up and my biology starts the panic reactions all the same. Naturally I am looking for some good therapies and medications for this, but I am a little nervous, since I tried Zoloft and propranolol and had severe reactions to both, especially the Zoloft.

Any ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions for therapies or medications? Also, anything you tell could be useful for other people searching for helpful therapies or medications, so don't hold back!

Maybe read the statement of purpose of this thread.

To recommend medications is not allowed.

To recommend a spiritual therapy is not allowed.

So you need to ask the question somewhere else it seems.
The doctor seems like a good place to ask. :)

First off... anyone participating in this tread should note if they are a medical professional or not.
I am not a doctor or even any kind of therapist. But I have found a couple things that help me.
I have a couple genetic issues that cause stress and even depression. These are herbal supplements that have helped me greatly. All natural. Inexpensive over the counter. You can get them via amazon.

The first one is a mix of herbs that work together.
Trio Mood Joy 5-HTP Promote Calmness and Relaxing Sleep with Ashwagandha, St Johns Wort, & Turmeric
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SLQFHL7?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

The second (for me) is directed at those genetic issues that cause problems.
Nutricost N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT)
Amazon.com: Nutricost N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT) 350mg, 120 Capsules - Gluten Free, Non-GMO : Health & Household

If you are pregnant, have had an organ transplant, or are taking any prescription mood-altering drugs, take care. These will not hurt you by themselves, but they might augment or inhibit the prescription drugs you are taking. It is your choice, but if you are on meds, then perhaps ask your doctor about side effects and interactions.

All I can say is they helped me.
Also, my genes bend me toward chronic pancreatitis. My brother shares this with me, and my mother died at 43 with complications so we suspect the gene did this. These herbal remedies are supposed to help here also.

If you have youtube on TV or even your computer... search for these things and research a little. There is some good stuff here. Just remember not all these are medical doctors. So beware. If it sounds to good to be true... well, you know.
