• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS): This is a man made sweetener that is cheaper to produce and actually sweeter than sugar. There are actually new commercials touting how healthy HFCS is. They are trying to say that it is safe and natural.
Let me ask you this: Can you squeeze corn syrup from corn? Can mom make high fructose corn syrup at home? NO! It's a lie! Remember the quote above? HFCS is anything but natural and will actually shut off your hunger mechanism allowing you to eat without feeling full which will MAKE YOU FAT!
It is associated with blood sugar problems (ATTENTION Moms: Childhood obesity, and Juvenile Diabetes is on the rise! So is ADD/ADHD. HFCS is a huge culprit!) depression, fatigue, B vitamin deficiency, indigestion and tooth decay.
HFCS is found in soda, candy, condiments, cereals, breads, etc.

BHA and BHT are so bad they're banned in Europe. 1% of the adult population is highly allergic to this grain preservative. I cannot tell you how badly it affects me other than I lay on the bathroom floor and be very, very sick:bow: is for the porcelain throne!

Amen to this!!!

This substance severly spikes your blood sugar level putting enormous strain on the pancreas and causing a mass secretion of insulin.

I also read somewhere that since it is not natural and the body does not know exactly how to deal with it, it normally remains in the body up to 2 weeks before the body can really get rid of it.

Any sugar substitute. They usually replace a carbohydrate with a chlorine or other highly electronegative element. Carbohydrates like sucrose have weak to no dipole moments (not very charged,) but replace functional group hydrogen with Chlorine (which is the most electronegative element,) and you get a strong oxidizer - ripping electrons from stable chemicals in your body, making them acidic. You must load up on antioxidants in order to battle this. Sucralose does this chlorine replacement, and your body cannot digest it.

Another one is caffeine. We all know that, but they never really say why. Caffeine is about the same size as the adenosine molecule, which "locks and keys" into your neurotransmitters, telling your brain to get sleepy. When you drink caffeine, it goes into your neurotransmitter for adenosine among others, and it fits, but does not "lock and key." So, your brain never gets the message to get sleepy, and the caffeine blocks other adenosine molecules from entering until the caffeine molecule decomposes. Pretty bad stuff.
