Galatians 4:19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again
until Christ is formed in you...
Paul is addressing congregations in Macedonia, Achaia, Corinth,
the region of Galatia, etc...on how to grow into a mature body of Christ,
which does not depend on any individual being "perfect".
This is about a mature relationship among people in fellowship.
1 Corinthians 12:12-31
Paul's letters to congregations teach us a path to Christian maturity among members.
They will not always need the gifts of the spirit mentioned in ch. 12,
but they will always need faith, hope, and above all, love to function.
[G5046] teleios=mature.
1 Corinthians 2:6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature,
yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
1 Corinthians 14:20 Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however,
in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.
Is this not clearly a statement of maturing to adulthood?
1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child,
I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Paul is teaching the work of the Holy Spirit in perfecting fellowship
among imperfect people. 1 Corinthians 12-14 leads to Ephesians 4:
Ephesians 4:
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists,
and some pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry,
for the edifying of the body of Christ,
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about
with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of
deceitful plotting,
15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him
who is the head—Christ—
16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies,
according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes
growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
