• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Paula,

She is soooooooooooooooooooo beautiful! Thank you for sharing this pic! I can't wait for my little guy to see her when he wakes up- he loves seeing her pics!

He didn't get to dress up for Halloween because he was/is still sick with hand, foot and mouth disease and an ear infection. He spent the holiday getting two antibiotic shots and filling prescriptions and trying to sleep.

Oh, I'm so sorry Court! Poor little guy! Give him a kiss from Meaghan and I ok?
I hope seeing pictures of his future wife cheers him up. :D

Kisses have been given! I think her pic did cheer him up because he said, "She's sooooooooo beautiful! Is she a real angel?"

Well, I gave my speech tonight and let me just say......WOW.

God is good.

In my heart of hearts I wanted to hear someone say "that was the best icebreaker speech I've ever heard." I know, pretty ambitious and a little bit cocky eh? But I practiced it many many times and even videotaped myself to change things I didn't like. I prayed and asked God to help me glorify Him and for me not to look like an idiot. :D

My evaluator was one of the editorial writers for the local paper and has been with Toastmasters since 1985.

She said "I've heard a lot of Icebreakers but that was the best one I've ever heard."

Her notes:

Courage, great voice variety, strong gestures. You have a natural charisma that endears you to your audience. Honest, sincere. We loved getting to know you. The flow was marvelous. Your pacing was excellent. You can take that voice a long way. You look great. You sound great. You are great. This was one small step on a giant journey!

I am flying to the moon tonight.
Thanks to God for the material AND the talent. And the opportunity.

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry I haven't ben around much lately. Tim has been very sick for weeks, right after having to go through his dad's death and funeral - and now we're moving!!

But I still keep everyone here in my thoughts and prayers.

Here is a great report on the social effects of pornography from Morality in Media which I think has some relevance here:

http://tool.donation-net.net/Images/Email/1021/Social_Costs_of_Pornography__Kings_College_Jan09.pdf

I especially related to the part about the effects of working in the adult industry.

Wow Pam, poor Tim. I'll bet his illness is due in part to his grief. I will say a prayer for him.
Be safe while you are moving. Are you leaving your town or are you just going to another part of the city?

I will read that report asap.

A few questions...

What is your favorite verse in the Bible? :)

Who has heard of Paul Washer or John Piper? It is rare that a pastors sermon can change you life but wow. You can find them on Sermon Audio .com.

Has a sermon ever changed your life before?

This has to be quick as I am taking care of a little one.....

My favorite "sermons" so to speak are books. I know that's not really what you are looking for, but the writings of C.S. Lewis (nonfiction) have changed my life. I am more deeply affected by the written word than spoken word.

My favorite verse- Romans 8:28

No, I have not heard of Paul Washer or John Piper

Im more into books as most Catholics seem to be.

Blaise Pascal Penseés is one of my best loved books. So is John of the Cross writtings.

And I love Matthew 16:26

26 For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels: and then will he render to every man according to his works.

Ricardo, I have an opportunity to meet the Archbishop of my Diocese this Saturday night. He will be at our Knights of Columbus annual dinner so I obviously won't have much time with him but....any suggestions?

Well, explain that you are interested in creating a apostolate to help women out of sex work and you want to put a comprehensive program combining things like.

1. Missionary work.
2. Social work.
3. Medical, psychological and legal advise.
4. Job advise and training.
5. Shelter and financial help.

That the CC is ideal for that endeavor because it combines traditional judeo christian values with a commitment to diversity, intelectual compromise, and social justice.
That helping sex workers is not just a morality issue but a social justice issue since most of the women in the sex industry come from poor backgrounds, and often had terrible chilhood issues that reflect in mental issues as adults.
That apart of your personal issues you would love to put yourself in contact with like minded persons in the CC in Canada and maybe get a religious order like the Sisters of Mercy or the Sisters of Charity to support you.
