Slovakia’s Prime Minister Fico in life-threatening condition after being shot multiple times

The shooting took place after an off-site government meeting in Handlova. Fico was first transported to a local hospital and then taken by helicopter to a major trauma center in Banska Bystrica, about 30 kilometers away.

“There was an assassination attempt on R. Fico. He was shot multiple times and is currently in a life-threatening condition. The next few hours will be decisive,” said a statement on Fico’s official Facebook page.

The suspected gunman was detained at the scene by law enforcement officers, according to Slovakia’s state news agency TASR.

Let us pray for R. Fico. Whether we support a leader or not, we must pray for the victims of attack. I do not know much about Slovakia, but this shooting sounds bad.

[Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok] said Thursday that the suspect charged was a lone wolf who “did not belong to any political groups.”​

Yesterday, he said it was 'politically motivated'.

The shooter is evidently a 71 years old retired person.

Wow, hopefully we can find out more information about what was running through this 71-year old guy's head, and that he gets the right mental treatment in jail to hopefully prevent him from ever committing violence again.
