"Although it contains disturbing descriptions of rape, assault, and incest resulting in the birth of two children, enough to unsettle any adult, the book was placed in the Legacy High School Midland, Texas high school library."

They are not going to stop trying to push this material on kids.

Have you read what this book was about? I read what this book was about. And found it to be a good story. That older kids and teens should be able to read. I'm not sure why the pastor was removed.

The first example was kind of ambiguous without some context, but if he thought the rest of them were titillating, he either doesn’t understand literature, or he’s the pervert.

He wanted it removed because of pornographic descriptions, a lot of what he read from the book was bleeped out. It's not appropriate for children.

According to the article, it was in the library of a high school.

Additionally, the pastor makes a living preaching from a book that contains passages nearly as graphic.

Aaaannnd, according to the article, the pastor is a contributor to TP group that published the article, so this grandstanding was also part of his job.

Just saying the book shouldn't be in school library. American kids are way behind in math and English, no need for this book.

That someone gets the vapors over it does not strike me as a compelling reason to remove it.

No need, especially if Christians like the idea of showing naked pictures of the President's son having sex with a prostitutes on prime time TV.

It's high school.

If you expect then to raise a baby if the get pregnant by mistake you clearly believe they should be able to handle a book.
Taxpayer money should not be used to force politicized or pagan ideologies on our children.

Again, you trust teens enough to be parents.

Why do you they can't handle "treat gay people respectfully?"

Wait....the article only said that the book was available in the library. There was nothing that indicated it was part of any curriculum, let alone that any high schooler was forced to adopt whatever ideology was put forth in the book.

You're making stuff up.

-- A2SG, you really should stop doing that.....

Removing the pastor is nothing new. From the early push back from parents attending school board meetings, school board members would cut the microphones so that parents could not read from books out loud. It's been evident for a long time that a lot of those promoting DEI, CRT, and other woke policies have acted to prevent exposure of their agendas to public scrutiny.

And yet our entire calendar is nothing but Greek & Roman and gods, (until the “ember” months), and even the days of the week are polluted with Norse deities.
Let’s start there, shall we, first get the Twelve Disciples as the months of the year and then we can talk about really getting these pagan ideologies outta the schools!!

Yes, I remember this one, a parent felt the need to read passages from a high-school library book that everyone agreed was disgusting. And their microphone was shut off, because everyone agreed that the book had disgusting imagery which was not suited for a school board meeting.

Why was that book in the library?
Because “disgusting literature” is protected speech too.

Yes, the world is changing. It always has been. It always will.

No, that's not why it was in the library. It was in the library because a left-wing activist thought it should be in the library, all in a mad dash to promote wokeness. There weren't issues of Playboy and Penthouse magazines in the high school library, yet those are protected under free speech too. All of a sudden drag shows were being given to children, yet children before had not been previously provided shows by pole dancers. The left's approach to education is not working. Kids in Baltimore schools need basic math and English texts, not wokeness.

And I'm sure you know this because you have solid evidence for it. So, who, exactly, is this "left wing activist" who forced the library to accept the book?

Or are you assuming stuff you have no reason to know actually happened?

There weren't issues of Playboy and Penthouse magazines in the high school library, yet those are protected under free speech too.
That "left wing activist" person really dropped the ball there, it seems. Gee, I wonder why they stopped at just this one book?

All of a sudden drag shows were being given to children, yet children before had not been previously provided shows by pole dancers.
No drag queen read books to children while dancing on a pole. Not a single one.

The left's approach to education is not working. Kids in Baltimore schools need basic math and English texts, not wokeness.
And I'll bet good money they have them.

-- A2SG, unless you have actual evidence to the contrary....?

Oh, this again. Children finding out that the world doesn't work like mommy and daddy says it does!?
Well, we can’t have that!
There weren't issues of Playboy and Penthouse magazines in the high school library, yet those are protected under free speech too.
Wow, complaining about things that don’t happen, wow, that’s, that’s impressive, on some level.

All of a sudden drag shows were being given to children, yet children before had not been previously provided shows by pole dancers.

We’re “discriminating against straight males” because we don’t allow pole dancers in schools?
The shame!

The left's approach to education is not working. Kids in Baltimore schools need basic math and English texts, not wokeness.
The schools mostly work for most kids “well enough”.
