Have all [and are all] scientific theories been valid ones?
Have all [and are all] scientific theories been valid ones?
I imagine that you want a yes or no answer for this, but sadly, that's not going to be the case.
Essentially, to cut a long story short, the historical theories were valid for their time periods based on what people knew at the time, but since our knowledge base has expanded since then, it's been shown that they were wrong.
TL;DR Historical ones would be valid for their time period until it was shown ultimately they were wrong.
Sounds to me like you're saying YES.
After all, I asked if they were valid at one time.
It's 'Yes' with a proviso.
And the challenge part is...?
Getting an honest answer without someone trying to water it down with provisos.
Your "challenge" fails on its face and you know this because you've been told in many, many threads in one way or another that all scientific knowledge is provisional.
It speaks to the failure of your challenge. It's not the theories that are "invalid". it's your poll. It's not a Yes/No question. It never has been. You've been told this numerous times. You're just being disingenuous. This thread is a poll about the validity of scientific theories past and present.
I hear a lot about "valid theories."
But I don't see one single vote as yet.
That speaks volumes.

I refuse to participate in your invalid poll. I'll comment all day long about how it's invalid. Is the theory of evolution a valid theory?
Was Phlogiston theory a valid theory at one time?
If you answer YES to both, you may want to go vote.
Define "valid theory."
Both were/are useful contributions to scientific thinking (and objective knowledge) .. especially by clarfying stark distinctions between nonsense beliefs and systematic objective thinking. Is the theory of evolution a valid theory?

There are so many terms here you'd need to define.Have all [and are all] scientific theories been valid ones?
Why do you need provisos gone? Do you require binary to be able to understand an answer? Does it get to complicated when nuance and detail are entered into the picture? Because I really wanna tell you that if that's the case, science is definitely not an area you should maintain an interest in because you require some very basic skillsGetting an honest answer without someone trying to water it down with provisos.

But most importantly, you need to make sure you are using the word "scientific theories" and not "hypothesis" if you mean the latter.
So, are you referring to the scientific version of a "theory"?
