Name: Anwen Skyblade

Gender: Female

Age: 21

Race: Aquilan

Appearance: (see picture) Anwen is just under average height and is of slender build. Ever since she was young, she has kept her deep purple hair around waist-length, but in keeping with an Aquilan ritual (read background/history) she shaved her head at one point, so her hair has now finally grown out to brush against her shoulders, and is a shade or two lighter due to being constantly outside. She has large white wings, which is common for her race, and is very agile in flight with them. She wears calf-high brown boots, comfortable for extensive traveling. She wears form-fitting dark brown pants and a long-sleeved light green tunic that falls around her hips. Over her tunic she wears a semi-wide leather belt with a buckle that once belonged to her father. Over top of her clothes she wears a well-worn brown hooded cloak with some beautiful stitching created with dark green thread. This cloak was made by Anwen's mother for Anwen's passage into adulthood. It still fits her quite well.

Personality: Anwen keeps to herself and is usually very quiet, being mainly an introvert. She thoroughly enjoys reading and art. She does not the country nor the city, but feels most comfortable somewhere in between in a good sized town or village. She was very much a homebody and very close with her family and a few others in her hometown. Anwen is quietly confident, and whatever she may struggle with she tries to keep it to herself as much as possible.

Background/History: Anwen was been born and raised in the same town, a town exclusive to Aquilan (think gated community or the loosest definition of commune). As are all children her race, she was homeschooled, reading textbooks and writing essays and the like, but taking tests in a group with all the other children her age. The Aquilan have several religious denomonations that spring from the root belief that there is a spirit being (generally referred to as Hon in most denomonations) who rules over all the Aquilan. There are rituals throughout the life of an Aquilan male or female that must be completed in order for them to be blessed in the next chapter of their life. They also believe that Hon decides the destiny for an Aquilan individual in every way...from how they will look to their intelligence to what occupation they take to who they will marry to where their place of death will be. The Aquilan preform rituals and have specific prayers so they might get their heart's desire granted from Hon regarding most of life's issues and events.
Anwen was raised in the Ferlow denomonation of this religion, although her parents were more devout than she was. She went through Guidan, a series of teaching and training that all Ferlow Aquilan go through from the time they are seven years of age until they are an adult (roughly around 16/17 years of age). After completing Guidan, Anwen went through the ritual for deciding what to do next in life. She wanted to be a scribe or perhaps a librarian, but it seems Hon instead chose for her to work on the fishing docks of a neighboring town (also exclusive to the Aquilan race). This job was physically demanding and somewhat varied, but Anwen was most thankful that she didn't have to become something like a teacher or merchant which required constant interaction with people. She tried her best at this job, but was never really happy with it. She wanted something different, and was confused and a little hurt that this supposedly great and infinite Hon didn't seem to want her to be content in life and doing something she wanted to do with her life.
Her life changed when she was around 19 years old. Both her parents died unexpectedly on the same day while they were out traveling together. It was routine and just one of those fluke accidents that occur sometiimes in life. Unfortunately, most of the others in Anwen's town thought it was a message of some sort from Hon, possibly due to either the sin of Anwen or the sin of her parents. (She was their only child.) Anwen believed that her parents were two of the most devout Ferlows she'd ever known, and therefore assumed it had something to do with her struggle and half-hearted belief in in the Ferlow religion, not to mention her belief in the distant spirit Hon. She went through the morning ritual (consisting of shaving and covering her head, wearing of a robe or long shawl – especially when visiting the grave of the deceased, along with certain daily prayers and specific sacrifices, etc.) for a year. Anwen could not come to the peace the time of mourning was suppose to bring, so she continued in mourning ever since. She felt a great a great burden and sadness had enveloped her and she could not find any way to relieve it. Some months after her mourning period was supposed to have ended, Anwen sought out the council of one of the only elders she'd ever met. After much council and prayer, Anwen decided to leave the town she grew up in and loved so much. She needed to find what Hon wanted her to learn or do in order that this great burden of sadness might be released from her soul.
This has been her life for the last year or so. Anwen is resourceful enough to live without the aid of employment, able to find and cook food for herself, make and mend clothing, etc.

Special Abilities: She is very agile and acrobatic, both on the ground and in the air. She has no special fighting/combat abilities though.

Weapon of Choice: Although she cannot stand fighting, she keeps a pair of push blades (or push daggers) on her person, just in case. She's not a pro with them, but she can certainly hold her own if need be. She relies more on her ability to get away more than her ability to fight.

I know the pic is a little odd and the girl in it is wearing a very small dress, but it was the best pic I could find that visualized the size of the wings on an adult Aquilan female (as I pictured it). Plus she had the purple hair I wanted!

I apologize for the pic being a bit scandalous. o_O
