Because this then makes what you seek an intellectual endeavor. 'Whoever has the best sounding knowledge and facts for me to mentally weight up is what I will believe in and follow'. This is not faith. Faith is believing regardless of what your intellect might try and tell you. The intellect is extreamly prideful and vein, it wants to be correct at all costs and does not like to take a backseat.

Do you believe Peter get out of the boat and started to walk to Jesus? If yes why do you believe that?
You wouldn't believe it because facts show men can walk on water, since facts show the very opposite. No doubt every scientist who you say are reputable and look up to would laugh at the very notion of Peter walking on water and say that is a fairy tale. Think about who you follow. The only trustworthy one to follow is God. Not a man no matter how educated he or she happens to be.
Peter got out and walked due to the amount of faith that he had, but then his intellect interrupted his faith. Don't let your intellect reign supreme it will lead you away from faith.
