So which is it - is the firmament hard and makes space rockets to explode when they crash into it or is it something the Sun, the Moon and stars can move in like fish in a sea.

Or is it like a LED screen on which the moving lights are only projected and not really existing as separate entities? Try a bit a and come with something consistent.
