While I do not follow sports, I am glad that sports figures are turning to Christ.

Detroit Piston's Jaden Ivey (basketball) shared the gospel at a 2023 press conference "Jesus is coming back":

Catholics who attend the traditional Latin Mass are not representative of the vast majority of Catholics. Diocesan priests are not allowed to preside at these Masses. There are two parishes in my diocese that hold this Mass, pastored by priests in an obscure order.

The only Benedictines I know of who do not wholeheartedly embrace the spirit of Vatican II are a cloistered group from Clear Creek, Oklahoma. They are from the mountains of France. Female visitors are subject to all sorts of restrictions not required of men.

I have never been to Atchison, but I've read some books by Atchison sisters and Judith Valente. Their spirituality is far more wholesome and authentic than the one Buttger describes.

Most women don't have the luxury of being a SAHM. Rather than preach to a captive audience of graduates to offend and victimize, he should be advocating for higher wages for the stadium staff and minor leaguers so that those women who choose can afford to live on one income.

Going back to one income families, for women who freely choose, requires living wages, a stronger social safety bet, and access to family planning.

He's just another Tim Tebow. A place kicker on field for a few minutes each game.

And as Whoopi.Goldberg said, if Buttger can preach religious extremism at colleges, why can't Colin Kapernick exercise his freedom of speech.

Don't presume to tell women what will make them happy. Different women have different personalities, have different things that make them happy, and will choose different paths. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to happiness.

Well, we should say amen to Jesus, for speaking through Jaden Ivey. Never heard of this guy until yesterday, when watching a video from a Christian YouTuber (Kap Chatfield). :) Bless this man's (Ivey's) soul.

Seriously. Where's the "shut up and play football" crowd now?

If I am not mistaken, Vatican II happened in 1962. Also, Whoopi Goldberg was in Star Trek TNG, just had to throw a Star Trek thing into here, cos I am a sci-fi guy. She is not Christian sadly.

“Apparently it was homophobic, anti-trans, anti-abortion, and racist,” Stuckey says. “You don’t have to keep selling me on it.”

Not so much saying the quiet part out loud as they are broadcasting it to the universe.

Don’t let anyone on the right tell you they aren’t these things. They happily embrace their bigotry when someone else is brave enough to say it for them.

I say that everyone ought to try to glorify The Lord God in all that they do. Isn't that directive also in the New Testament?

Yes, Alex, 1962, but just as some Americans pine for the Ozzie and Harriet days, others pine for that old time religion.

Goldberg approached this as a free speech issue--both for Buttger and Kapernick. Kapernick took a knee for civil rights. Buttger made a speech trying to deprive women of their rights to careers...

A Tennessee University, perhaps Vanderbilt, has a female place kicker. Wouldn't it be amazing if the Chiefs became the first NFL team to have a female place kicker?

Is Buttger afraid he could be replaced by a woman?

Yeah this is patronizing. The idea that this guy just graduating college knows any more about the key to happiness (for women, no less) than the rest of his class graduating at the same time as him is condescending.

I am not a sports guy, so I can not make any comments. I would take a knee for civil rights also, plus I do not like anthems, as I feel that national anthems and pledges are idolatry, when the only person I pledge to is Jesus. A female kicker could work, but I do not know how that would change the game play. Also, my football knowledge is limited. All I know is that the 2021 Superbowl had a female coach for the first time. She is gay though, so my prayers for her. I'm bi myself, but will remain celibate unless with a wife, as I want to glorify God with my actions.

2021 Superbowl info: Katie Sowers, the first woman to coach in a Super Bowl, shares her story with Columbia

A Christian opposed to the LGBT agenda and is pro-life is bigoted?

Good grief.

They can be. Nobody is immune to ignorance. The person from the article I quoted is certainly embracing their bigotry (homophobia, anti-trans and racist) and trying to paint it as a good thing.
Good grief.

I don’t think that person is really representative of most Christians. This article is pulled from a right wing website though. This does represent at least part of the right’s position on these things.
