There's a "New Covenant" and an "Old Covenant"... Is that correct? You also are misunderstanding the context of Hebrews 7-10 also
Nice post. Changing heart or changed heart if the old man is crucified with Him that the Body of sin be destroyed? If sin and it's power over us has been condemned in the flesh that the righteousness of the Law be fulfilled in us why is it most are still sinning as if still in bondage?Someone tries to make me angry, the flesh response is to do the same to them, to get revenge.
The Spirit response is to love your enemies and do good to them that hate you.
( And some save with fear )
Let us walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh.
For they that walk after the flesh can not please God.
You have yet to address any passage to which you brought up. Romans 6-8, James 1-2 , Hebrews 7-10 ? Pick one, and when we are finished with the day to day we will respond. But alas' I owe, I owe so off to work I go....There's a "New Covenant" and an "Old Covenant"... Is that correct?
Should I pour New Wine, into an Old Wineskin?
That's odd... I thought we were to "Work out our own salvation with fear and Trembling". I just e-mailed Paul to replace the word "Your", with "everyone else's". I hope the response is polite.Nice post. Changing heart or changed heart if the old man is crucified with Him that the Body of sin be destroyed? I actually don't. There are two covenants. The OLD and The NEW. Now, where did Paul place the Decalogue? HmmmmmYou have yet to address any a passage. Romans 6-8, James 1-2 , Hebrews 7-10 ? Pick one, and when we are finished with the day to day we will respond. But alas' I owe, I owe so off to work I go....
Green Brackets, Emboldened Text, Green Text, Red Brackets, Emboldened Text, Red Brackets What does it mean?!?
(9 Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. 2 A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. 3 Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, 4 which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. 5 Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now.
6 When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. 7 But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance. 8 The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. 9 This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. 10 They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new order.)
The Blood of Christ
(11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here,[a] he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[c] so that we may serve the living God!
15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
16 In the case of a will,[d] it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, 17 because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. 18 This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood. 19 When Moses had proclaimed every command of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people. 20 He said, “This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep.”[e] 21 In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies. 22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
23 It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But He has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.)
I'm not even in Scripture and I'm recalling some passage fragments... "Ministry of death, chiseled in stone". Hmmmm... "Whenever Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts"... "You have yet to address any passage to which you brought up. Romans 6-8, James 1-2 , Hebrews 7-10 ? Pick one, and when we are finished with the day to day we will respond. Not that it really matters but it is Deut. 28:28 not duet my friend. If you do correct it, this mistake is in the last couple posts
Because it does not speak of the fact that he that commits sin is a servant to it.
That, that which we would, we do not. But the evil that we wouldn't that we do. And if we do what we would not, it is no longer we who do it but the sin that dwells in us.
In Deuteronomy 31:26, the entire book of the law is placed beside the "ARK of THE COVENANT" and said to be a Witness AGAINST thee. A witness against someone is also known as an ACCUSER.Thank you for pointing out this error.
But it does, you just won't see it.
But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; (This is the SIN that Paul is speaking to, surely you know that) that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
What is Paul describing here in Romans? He wants to obey God, but he can't. Why not? You are promoting that it isn't a curse to do something that you know is against God's Law. That somehow God doesn't know about the struggle Paul finds himself in, and therefore didn't prepare His People for the struggle in the Law and Prophets that Paul promoted for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
I disagree, not because some self-proclaimed minister of righteousness convinced me in a sermon, but because I studied God's Word as instructed. And God tells me in more than one place, that HE, by His commandment, placed this curse on Paul.
I long to have the discussion with you, someone I used to think was more interested in Biblical Truth than self-justification.
I have questions for you even now, but will you answer them?
Paul said he was alive once, and the commandment came and he died. When did the commandment come to Paul? Before Ananias, or after?
When did Paul do that which he would not? Was this when he held the coats of men who murdered the innocent Stephen? Or are you saying he is still sinning after he humbled himself to serve the Law of God in his mind, and began walking in the Spirit?
When can a man stop yielding their members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Before this man humbles himself to serve the Law of God with his mind, crucifies the old man, and begins walking, not after the flesh, but after the Spirit of God? Or after?
And why is this? I believe it is because of the Law of Sin that God defined in His Holy Inspired Word, the curses for disobedience that God Promised. So if I am sinning against God, when I don't want to, there is a reason. The old man and the flesh thereof is not crucified, I am not serving the Law of God with my mind, and therefore, because of the curses God Promised, "the Law of Sin", sin reigns once again, in my mortal body.
And yes, it is not me, but the sin that dwells in me. And Paul also addresses this.
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
You can't take a few verses out of the Bible, separate them from the rest of the bible, and find God's Truth.
Very interesting.
The law of sin in my flesh is from God? Not my own fleshly desires?
And the law in my mind is from God also? So God tempts me?
What if Romans 7 has been a little bit twisted? As Peter said would happen 2 Peter 3:15-16.
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind,
and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my memebers.
So then with the mind I my conscious self serve the law of God,
but with the flesh the law of sin.
Oh wretched man that I am! Who shall save me from this body of death!?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.
Just flows way better, and fits perfectly with the context around it.
In Deuteronomy 31:26, the entire book of the law is placed beside the "ARK of THE COVENANT" and said to be a Witness AGAINST thee. A witness against someone is also known as an ACCUSER.
Wow! I love that! That fits the Jewish reference to Torah being the Law and Prophets! I love it! But... The Book of the Law is "The Book of the Law" in that passage (Deut 31:26) ... per the passage... HOWEVER... I know I shouldn't, but The devil was only one. The devil wanted to be the judge, all of that time, while only 1 (Trinity humor), is the JUST JUDGE!Isn't it written;
Deut. 15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
So the Book of the Law is ONE witness. Are the Prophets not the other?
Enjoy your mango monsterWow! I love that! That fits the Jewish reference to Torah being the Law and Prophets! I love it! But... Ooops.... A.D.D. episode. So, The Book of the Law, in Deuteronomy 31:26 represents Satan, While the Ark of the Covenant Represents... Israel and Jesus . So, visa vi, "Prophets, Jesus is Israel's FINAL Prophet" (John 5:39 )... So you could say that the Ark of the Covenant is Jesus, the Prophets, which are all encapsulated within Israel. whpewwwwww... So... I agree.
I LOVE SCRIPTURE!!!!!!!!! I'm going to open my cold mango monster, now! I Love what you pointed out!
Romans 8 shows the power of grace - the life of Christ within the believers is more powerful than any law of sin and death.Deut 30:10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
Deut 30:11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
Deut 30:12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deut 30:13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deut 30:14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
Romans 8 shows the power of grace - the life of Christ within the believers is more powerful than any law of sin and death.
I believe you agree. There is a Person who is stronger than the sin nature. Unlike us no matter how well intended to obey God we are we are weak through the fallen body. That Person has become "the Spirit of life" (Rom. 8:2) or "a life giving Spirit" (1 Cor. 15:45) to blend into our innermost being - our regenerated spirit.
Now with this background of Romans 8 I would like to highlight how Paul's quotations of Deuteronomy 30 relate to this.
For Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to everyone who believes. (Rom. 10:4)
Christ is not is the end of the law not a second beginning to the law. Are we on the same page?
For Moses writes concerning the righteousness which is out of the law: “The man who does them shall live by them.” (v.5)
Paul is about to CONTRAST . . . what Moses wrote with the work of Christ. Am I with you?
The next sentence begins with "But" indicating that Paul wants us to see a contrast between what Moses wrote and what Christ did and is.
But the righteousness which is out of faith speaks in this way, Do not say in your heart, “Who will ascend into heaven?” that is, to bring Christ down; (v.6)
Christ is that "WHO" who has been in heaven to know full well the will of God. I find it helpful to compare this with Psalm 24,4).
Who may ascend the mountain of Jehovah, / And who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, / Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood / Or sworn deceitfully. (Psalm 24:3,4)
We all know that only the Son of God qualifies for His absolute dedication to the Father and the Son's infinitely clean heart.
Or, “Who will descend into the abyss?” that is, to bring Christ up from the dead. (Rom. 10:7)
Christ is the WHO who has traversed the highest point and the lowest points in the universe. No one else qualifies
As such He is everything we need. He is everything God needs. This is quite a continuation of Romans chapter 8.
The nexte verses are about contacting Him, touching Him within, availing ourselves of Him and the power of His living grace.
This necessity to tap into this living Person is now stressed.
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of the faith which we proclaim,(v.8)
The near word is the gospel of Christ, the gospel of the grace of God - "the word of the faith which we preach".
That is Jesus Himself the available One. He is just a call away to the Christians. We call on Him and He is available - not just
once but everytime. " Lord Jesus, O Lord Jesus." He is so near. Paul has previously elaborated on Christ being the indwelling
Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, etc in Romans 8.
He is using Deuteronomy to teach how near and available and practical Christ is. And with Christ the empowering grace of His life.
That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (v.9)
For with the heart there is believing unto righteousness, and with the mouth there is confession unto salvation. (v.10)
The initial entrance into this eternal security of being saved is believing Christ is risen, alive, available which results in
Justification. But that is by no means the end. He continues to be rich to all who call on Him.
For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes on Him shall not be put to shame.” (v.11)
That is when we first were saved. That is today. That is tomorrow. That is forever. Calling on this One
whom we believe is alive and so near will never result in our being put to shame - forever.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him;
He is equally RICH to all Jew or Gentile who calls to Him to experience Him.
This is true not when the sinner first called on Him. It is true throughout the rest of his or her life.
The unsearchable riches of Christ are there for our eternal salvation and our daily salvation.
The salvation is really just being made one with Him. And His rich resurrection life is our supply.
For “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (v.12)
Christ is the end of the law. But He is the beginning of salvation in grace.
Grace is Christ being everything for us, all that we need, empowering, suppying, dispensing His life into us in
a mingled and blended way. Isn't this how Paul utizes the Deuteronomy passage?
He contrasts "the righteousness which is out of the law" with "the word of the faith which we preach".
Amen. We love Him. He loves us so much.
Romans 6:11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics[a] of the Devil. 12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. 14 Stand, therefore,
with truth like a belt around your waist, (Jesus)
righteousness like armor on your chest, (Jesus)
15 and your feet sandaled with readiness (Jesus)
for the gospel of peace.
16 In every situation take the shield of faith, (JESUS)
and with it you will be able to extinguish
all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation, JESUS!!!!!!!!!
and the sword of the Spirit, JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
which is God’s word. Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
Galatians 3:27 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
