Momma and I went to a city-wide yard sale about a half an hour from where we live today. We hit dozens of sales---I got some cool books, some DVD movies, a lightweight camo jacket, and so on.

Two Catholic parishes were part of the event: my parish (St. Michael's), and All Saints parish; most of the stuff consisted of donations from people in the area. It was at the last one that I found this wonderful little item. Maybe you've seen them before: it's a rosary made in Ireland from Connemara marble. They retail for anywhere from $45.00 up to $75.00; I got this one for a free-will donation of $5.00. (I had no idea what they went for new online. I guess I'll have to throw some extra cash in the collection plate on Sunday. :) )

Anyway, it looks just like the ones in these pictures. Very sturdy, and it has a nice, heavy feel to it. :) I am sure to be using it quite a bit in the near future.

Cool stuff. Which DVDs and books did you get? Also, the rosaries look similar to emerald, did not know that marble could be naturally green. Must be copper in it.

Edit: Nope, Connemara is green cos of serpentine.

Serpentine, another mineral present in Connemara marble, also contributes to its green color. Serpentine is a magnesium silicate mineral that forms in the metamorphosis of olivine-rich rocks. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and is characterized by its curved, ribbon-like or tubular structure. Serpentine is responsible for the green color of the marble, as it contains significant amounts of magnesium and iron hydroxides and chlorides.

I’m talking about yard sales and estate sales. ;) Lighten up! Lol!
Haha, I was making a partial joke. I'll lighten up a bit. Yes, May-August is a big time for garage and estate sales in my city as well.

Cool stuff. Which DVDs and books did you get?
I got three novels which are crime/police thrillers, an illustrated book on Medieval history, and a big photographic coffee-table book about a woman who crossed the Australian Outback alone with a couple of camels. For the DVDs, I got three war movies (one of them an ancient film with Humphrey Bogart), and two crime thrillers. I also got two music CDs, one of Frank Sinatra and another of Rosemary Clooney. (I was raised in a household with two World War II vets, so I grew up on the music of the 30's and 40's. :) )

Nice stuff. :) The early music is good. And yes, geology is fascinating. Just had to figure out why the colors of the rocks were green.

LOL. Yeah, I like the Big Band Era. My wife always gets a kick out of the fact that I know so much about all these bands that were popular 85 years ago----who played the hot music, who played the sweet music, which girl singer sang for which bandleader, etc. :)

It is cool that you know so much about Big Band music. I am slowly getting into pre-1950s music that is jazz.

I like all kinds of different music, except for the noisy junk (metal, acid, hair); and I don't like rap, derivative jazz, or most modern pop. I like postwar popular music, but you hardly ever hear it played---if you find a 50s channel, it's gonna be 50s rock and roll or rockabilly. Which is okay, but there's an awful lot of really good stuff recorded between 1946 and 1960 that they just omit, which is too bad.

Agreed. Modern pop is not good, same with metal, most modern jazz and rap. Most of the songs on my playlist are 1960s-2020s, but for stuff after the early 1990s, most songs are small indie bands. A few songs are from the 1940s-1950s, but I am slowly building up my repertoire.
