I don't know Evie, I have heard of women your age having pre-menopausal symptoms and even women younger! Do you have any underlying conditions that would possibly bring things on prematurely? Something like thyroid disease? My doctor has told me to basically expect to go through the pre and menopausal symptoms that your mother did. Basically, if she started early, chances are that you will too.

I have been having night sweats for about 2 years now. They wake me up but other then that, they are easy to deal with. My older sister started to have premenopausal symptoms in her early 40's and her doc told her that you can have the symptoms for up to 10 years before you actually go into menopause.

Ain't it fun getting older?!?!:p Peace to you ~~C

Sorry to hear that you are going through this tough time:groupray:

I also wanted to add have you heard about progesterone cream(sp?) I've seen it on TV and they say it balances out our chemicals in our bodies, it is cream that you just rub on your skin and it is absorbed into our bodies....been thinking on getting myself some as I think I am having pre-menopause symptons as well.

I think what you are describing is anxiety, or stress, attacks.

You have to realise that stress can effect the whole human organism. Getting anxious about something or a situation increases adrenaline output. This stimulates cortisone output and both stimulate the heart rate, giving rise to palpitations, subdues the internal thermostat, giving rise to inconsistencies in the body's heat control system, and general depletion of the nervous system and brain which can result in depression, mood swings and loss of control with tears and tempers.

Loss of sleep and waking up in the wee small hours is also not uncommon. Poor appetite will be a factor too with weight loss or you may be tempted to 'graze' instead of eating properly (comfort snacking) with subsequent weight gain.

You certainly should not be contemplating any HRT or such medications. I take it your doc has checked you out for diabetes and thyroid function? Asssuming these are negative, I suggest you find yourself some good relaxation tapes and learn some relaxation exercises - and yes, I'm sorry to those who this is going to spook - self-hypnosis which is just a form of deep relaxation and got me over a severe bout of said anxiety state - without the need for any drugs!

Let me know how you get on!

I am so sorry to hear about your separation Evie:kiss: Stress can knock your whole system out of whack so it wouldn't surprise me if everything is a domino effect of your marriage breakup. Praying for strength and good friends for you as you go through this tough time Evie. And I don't know the situation that led to the separation, but I pray that God's light and love would shine in your life and his peace and healing would be yours:prayer:

On this page there is a test for menopause symptoms: http://www.prempro.com/home.asp?at=google

Bare in mind that symptoms can have multiple causes. And it may not be menopause at all, but something else entirely. (like what your doctor already suggested)

If you're not satisfied with your doctor, it's perfectly acceptable to seek out a second opinion.

The majority of women don't go through menopause until their 50's or 60's. Although early menopause is not completely unheard of. Hormone fluxes can be caused by many different things however.

Hi Evie,

Have the Dr. check your TSH and T4 levels. A few years back my husband was havinvg a lot of the same symptoms. After a few doctors and a lot of tests, they found his thyroid to not be functioning properly. Now with the right medication, he feels better than he has in years! It may not be the only answere, but it is a place to start. Hang in there, your in my prayers. God Bless

Evie, my best word of advice for you is to leave no stone unturned.
I started with peri-menopausal symptoms when I was in my late thirties. That includes my PMS getting worse. And yes, while stress can play a part it sometimes only manages to make worse what is already there. In other words, you could be in peri-menopause and the symptoms are just made worse by the stress. Of course stress causes it's own problems.

The best thing I did was find a female nurse practitioner who was very knowledgable about "womens' issues" and was willing to talk. Also, arm yourself with information by reading all you can about perimenopausae, menopause, PMS etc. You can try the vitamins and supplements some suggest....they didn't do much for me. I did find that regular exercise and getting rid of some excess weight made me feel much better and seemed to lessen my symptoms.

As for the stress over you relationship with your husband....I'm so sorry, I cannot imagine how I would be doing if it weren't for my husband's support during these trying times I have. I hope you can find one or two or a whole network of women who will support you and pray with and for you. Read your Bible....maybe look for a special devotional you can do daily. Be good to yourself and treat yourself to some special quiet times or dinner out with a friend or whatever you enjoy or can afford.

More than anything remember you are a child of the King and He loves you because you are so special to Him. God Bless.

I am 43 and have been experiencing menopausal symptoms for about 6-7 years now. I havent had a regular period for years and I have had heat flashes and night sweats too. I figured that since I started having periods when I was 8, I would probably end early as well.

When I realised that I was beginning menopause, I started increasing my soy intake and reading up on the subject. I do not plan on taking female hormones; I want to go through this naturally, if possible.

Peace and Long Life

standing their folding clothes today,I was sweating so bad. I just could not take it anymore,so I called the Dr's office and they are going to have her call my home tommorrow to see what she thinks I should do next. Maybe she would knowsomething just by my symptons and of course from being her patient. I hate these "power surges",they are a killer!!!

Hi Evie ! I too am sorry you are going through such a rough period in your life.
I agree though with others that your symptoms sound a lot like stress, panic attacks, perhaps even depression. I would have all of the above if I were going through your life crisis at this time!

I began have menopausal symptoms when I was in my very early 30's . I began with hot flashes and very scanty periods. The hot flashes got really bad. However, I had never been pregnant and so I never had that egg producing cessation that women have while pregnant. I think that and my personal health makeup caused my early menopause. I had osteoporosis before I was 40 (not too bad) & I had a total hysterectomy by age 40 (ovarian cancer in the family too much). I have full blown osteoporosis now , but the hot flashes have all but gone. Did your doctor check your hormone levels? Mine did before the hysterectomy and said mine were all but nonfunctioning.

You will be in my prayers.

I just wanted to let you know that I went and had some bloodwork done this morning,it was called a Thyroid Profile. I should know by phone or mail what my results are, hopefully by next week and I will keep you posted. Meanwhile, these hot flashes or as one of you posted "POWER SURGES" are killers. I feel like I'm in WalMart in the middle of Winter shopping, with my heavy wool coat on.
