• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello everybody,

I am really depressed again. The thing is, it's like a huge roller coaster with my emotions. One day (Sunday-Monday) I'm way happy I don't think I have a problem in the world. Then, by Wednesday-Thursday I'm down. My parents are telling me that I'm responsible for 100% of their stress, my dad tells me I'm a waste of time, I just want to be happy 100% of the time, not just 2 out of every 7 days, that's not 100%. I have been seeing a counselor up where I attend college, I have been home for 3 weeks Friday and I have 3-4 weeks until I see my counselor again. Does anyone else experience this? How do you cope with this until you see your counselor again? I just want to be happy 100% of the time. Is it really that hard to be happy?!?

Have you seen a doctor? Do you have clinical depression? Maybe you need medication?

I don't really know a whole lot about depression and how it works, all I know is that my brother and dad both suffer/ed from clinical depression and took medicine for it. Zyrtec:)

I will say a little prayer for you:pray:
I know it has to be tough, and I can understand your family must also be worried about you (I started crying when I heard how depressed my brother was...)

I don't know what I have, all I know is I am seeing a counselor in my college town and I've only seen him 3 times before I came home for the summer. I am thinking it's some form of depression, I've been depressed for 3 years and 1 month and 15 days (when my grandma died).

ok me again... maybe if you cant tak to your counselor, you can talk to you youth pastor or pastor. that helps a lot. or your parents or someone ou cn trust. it really elps if you can get on some kind of medication that will regulate you moods.

well im not really sure if this all helps, but anyways im still praying for you. :) you can pm me if you would like

That is exactly how I feel! I can be really down for a while, then I get a happy day. I have just started seeing a counsellor as well, my fourth time will be in two weeks. How I deal with the bad days is just think about my family, how the would be if I weren't here, how hard it would be on them. I also sometimes think of how lucky I am, then it gets better in a different sense for about an hour. I also used to cut myself to feel better, I have been recovering from that for a month and six days now. Well, just think of your family and friends and how much they love you when you start getting down. As far as your parents go, I totally understand that one too. I assume by the way you write, they are not people you can easily talk to, so, just before you go back to College I would right them a letter and tell them that you don't like it when they say things like it is your fault, and that things like that are making you go further down in your depression. I wish you the best of luck! PM me if you want to talk. God Bless, take care of yourself.
Love,
D.

You need to get help for yourself and you've had some good ideas... meanwhile, you have a few weeks to go living with the parents

Without reigniting the argument, can you ask them what things you have been doing that have casued them stress, and then work on finding a way, when possible, to change actions or the situation so that the tension at home is lessened? Can you pitch in on housework? Or, can you simply spend less time at home?

Also, regular physical exercise can really help with depression. Get out for a long walk every day!

My parents demand that I don't go out of the house alone. I get in trouble if my parents call or come home and I'm not here. I'm physically disabled and I can't even walk down the driveway. The only thing that got me out of the house last year was a college bible study every wednesday, but that has been cancelled :(. I would actually hang out with some people afterwords (stay up to midnight like a normal person). Now nobody says hi to me at church, not even the people I met last year, I say hi to them and they don't even respond back. I just feel so alone. I just want to be happy again.

Let me say that it IS hard to be happy all the time...but to be experiencing this extreme highs and lows isn't good. Maybe you should stay away from your parents if they are bringing you down?? That might be a good idea. Find Christians who can love you for who you are and get your hands on the book by Brennan Manning called "Abba's Child." Keep striving towards the prize!

ditto...Abba's child is an excellent book. Also, try reading Purpose driven life if you haven't already. of course, there is always the bible! ;)
