Mercy Ships

Has anyone on here ever served on the Mercy Ships? I am planning to go next summer and would like some "inside" information! =)

I never heard of the Mercy Ships.
What is it exactly?

I havent myself, but a good friend of mine has! she did her DTS on the annestasis (sp) and went to africa where she lost her heart....lol
She also worked at the dutch office of mercy ships, but left there a couple years ago.

Mercy Ships are operated by YWAM (Youth With A Mission). Their purpose is to take the gospel and practical helps to needy people. The ships are staffed by a variety of personnel - doctors and other medical personnel, builders, engineers, etc. Most of the people, I would guess, are in the 20s, but there is no age bar (at least, none that I know of). They have been all over the world, but tend to mainly operate around the South American, African and Indonesian coastlines.

All the people who join are volunteers who find their own funding. All the the provisions are donated as are all the maintenance costs and port fees.

I think that they currently have four ships operating, but I can only remember the names of two of them - The Anastasis (the flag ship) and the Caribean Mercy.

You have to be 18 unless you are going with a group or legal guardian.
