Has anyone read Kevin Trudeau's "Cures "They" Don't want you to know about" ?

The "they" the book refers to is the FDA and the major drug companies and how they cooperate to make money for each other. Basically, and they do give a few testimonies if I can remember correctly, it shows how the FDA only approves drugs that won't heal a disease but just suppress symptoms just as almost all drugs do. This way they are all making money because the harmful side-effects cause more and more drugs to be piled on. Now obviously this has at least some to do with a persons lifestyle but the drugs are a major player as well. I only skimmed through some of it but there was one cure that looking back I find odd. There was a cure, I believe for the common cold, which was "cat's claw." When I first read this aloud my Dad said "That sounds like a witch's brew!" He was more or less kidding around but now that I really think about it that does sound really awkward. Other than that though it's basically a compilation of some remedies that seem to be more or less homemade like old traditions such as ginger tea and such. I really do think this should be looked into as a bigger option for more Christians as it seems plausable that God put a plant or animal on Earth to heal every disease. Basically any online study into the field of natural healing will probably lead more results but if you just feel like taking a casual look into it, the book's not bad.

Sounds like its no good then, for all we know the writer made up half of them to fill space. If people really do want to get interested in herbal remedies there are REAL books out there that look at scientific evidence for each's efficacy and say which ones do and don't work (and if your really keen some hypothesise the reasons why)

That doesn't fit with any scripture I was ever taught or heard, that said many drugs ARE based from compounds in plants and animals (and fungi, protozoans and prokaryotes) around the world. The difference with herbs is they isolate what causes the affect and just make those compounds, often modifying them to be easier to take or to act longer/go to right spot/act stronger etc.

By the sounds of it I think it is a bad book, poor quality evidence if its just 'homemade remedies'. Some herbs and 'natural' remedies do work and have evidence for them, some do not work, some are actually HARMFUL (to the point of being banned)
I'd be far more likely to recommend "Pharmacodynamic Basis of Herbal Medicine" though it is rather detail and science heavy for the casual reader! :p

I wonder if this is the same book my mom has.I have to go look as i don't know what to believe anymore. I began having seizures last year, the drugs don't control what's happening. Yet,the dr's write me RX's and it's all about trying it while I'm slowly losing alot of time at school. It seems the drug companies ask dr's to prescribe certain drugs to get kick backs.:(

His name looked familiar to me so I googled him and this is the first line of his wiki entry, see if anything stands out to you.

Kevin Mark Trudeau (b. February 6, 1963) is an American author, infomercial salesman, convicted felon, founder of the International Pool Tour, self-proclaimed advocate of alleged alternative medicine, and radio personality.

So he is an author, convicted fraudster, and infomercial salesman who founded a billiards tour. How can any adult capable of operating a computer think taking medical advice from a guy like this is a good idea?

Does it not at all seem sketchy that he is selling these "cures" in a book instead of working on them in a lab? How many life changing scientific discoveries can you think of that were made by people with absolutely no education in the reliant field.

What makes this guy, who has no evidence what-so-ever more credible than the collective movement that eradicated smallpox? Why is Stealie McFraudster's unverified statements even in the same ballpark as peer reviewed medical literature?

Neurology is still a pretty new field and in many cases, especially with seizures the answer is "I don't know but try this". You and your doctor need to try different medications till you find one that works for you. If your doctor is unwilling to do this then find a new one. GP's know close to nothing about neurology (because they don't have to) and what it sounds like you need is a specialist.

The very last thing you want to do is take the advice of some of the loons hanging around here. Seizures can be a symptom of a whole host of serious problems and there is probably not anything out there in the "natural" world that is going to stop them. You want results based medicine, homeopathy and the like do not provide this which is why they are not used in place like ERs.
