Judges 7:

1 Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod,
so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley.
2 And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands,
lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
3 Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once
from Mount Gilead.’ ” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.

2 And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands,
lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
I was startled at first, in reading "lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me"
but then the Lord immediately reminds me of how we turn against God:
James 4:

3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss,
that you may spend it on your pleasures.
4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that

friendship with the world is enmity with God?
Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world
makes himself an enemy of God

Deuteronomy 24:
20 When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over the boughs again;
it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.
21 When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward;
it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.
22 And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt;
therefore I command you to do this thing.

Acts 12:20 Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. Together they presented themselves before him. After winning over Blastus, who was in charge of the king’s bedroom, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food from the king’s country. 21 On an appointed day, dressed in royal robes and seated on the throne, Herod delivered a speech to them. 22 The assembled people began to shout, “It’s the voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 At once an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.

an abomination in the sight of God.
