ah the greatness of deep-fried mars bars... though i must admit i have never seen deep-fried haggis :)

Tends to be a Scottish/NE England thing. I've had it in Alston (Cumbria).

And, strangely, in Corby....

I've always wanted to visit your interesting country, but now I'm not so sure. Your food is making me queasy (no offense). Everything is made out of meat, and I'm a strict vegetarian.

What's being mentioned here is meaty. There are a lot of vegetarians in the UK and veggie food is very easily come by.

It wouldn't make you hurl, but it might possibly make you lardy...

Anyone here tried the traditional deep-fried edinburgh take-outs?

Deep fried haggis and chips
Deep fried pizza and chips
Deep fried black / white pudding and chips

These all come smothered in watered-down brown sauce which makes the chips soggy.

Follow those with a deep-fried chocolate bar (nicer than they sound - the batter goes all crispy and chocolatey, and the inside is totally melted. Mars or Snickers are the best.) Only problem with these is that they taste of fish by the end of the day, mmmm!

I left Scotland to live in New Zealand. I was amazed to find deep fried chocolate bars in Auckland!

Corby's more Scottish than English, even though it's in Northants! Something to do with mining, right?

I'm now a vegetarian, but when I lived in Edinburgh, I luuuurved deep fried Haggis. My favourite was from the chippie at the top end of the Meadows.

Happy memories!
