So I see threads on lock-ins and for me those are always easy, there are millions of games, lessons, movies, and other things to occupy their time. But the real challenge is trying to find things to do at a lock-out  , esp free things. So I thought I would start a tread fo people who wanted to list ideas and things they have done at a lock-out that worked well. Most lock-outs seem to last about 12 hours or so. We are doing one next weekend so I will post what all we end up doing, but we are also doing it as the start of our Famine, so no wasting a few hours on dinner and breakfast!! Oh well, haha. Hope everyone can find this thread useful, just keep the  ideas coming!!!

Here are some things added so far

Cost money
Mini-golf/funpark
Midnight Bowling

Free
Walmart Scavenger Hunt
Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee
Campfire Devotion

Well, if you want to do a lockout in relation to a famine, try roughing it outside. Like, reeeeally roughing it. The whole idea behind may be something like teaching the youth that there are people worse off in the world & that it is up to those more fortunate to make a difference in their lives.
Now...ideas for roughing it...firstly, let the kids have a proper toilet...otherwise it would be plain disturbing & gross & you may find some parents complaining...that means no banana leaves, heavily wooded areas, bushes or holes in the ground...lol...ok
For bedding, only use flattened card board boxes. Nothing else! As for food, find out what third world countries eat. U could try plain boiled rice in a small cup for dinner & porridge & water for dinner. You could research games to play that are related to the theme to pass the time. And also, another rule of the lock out could include that the youth are not allowed to shower or bring spare clothes. That also includes no deoderants (be prepared for stinkyness...), sprays, hairbrushes (the girls would looove that...lol), toothpastes (bad breath too...woo...), toothbrushes, jewellery (including watches), other valuables & electricity. The only exemptions would be medications (eg:asthma sprays) and the clothes on the youth kids' backs. Oh the fun of roughing it! Lol
Hope that's an ok idea for ya!
:)

We do one outing per month, some we've done in the past are: Cat and mouse games with vehicles (cats) and youth (mice), Digital Camera Scavenger Hunt, Night Hikes, Dark games (capture the flag/kick the can etc. at a school field), Soccer Night, Smugglers (youth try to 'smuggle" refrigerator boxes from certain points in town on foot to a common base, while leaders in vehicles try to spot/catch them), Beach night, (volleyball, swimming, campfire)
