I guess a bit of background is necessary here. I’ll make it brief.

Madalyn Murray O’ Hare was the most famous atheist in America.

Saying she was fighting for her son who was an atheist, she spearheaded the battle against school prayer and won. It was she who pushed for banning reading of the Bible in school and won.

She wasn’t done. Madalyn founded the American Atheists and sued the city of Baltimore demanding that the state collect taxes from the Catholic church. She sued NASA arguing that public prayer ought to be banned by government employees in outer space. She also challenge the words under God in the pledge of allegiance as well as the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on currency.

Her son William Murray, however, became a Christian, much to the shock and horror of his mother. You’ll never believe (or perhaps you will) what his mother said to him when he informed her of his belief in Christ.

I was listening to the audiobook by her son. She’s one of the big reasons we’re in this whole mess. It seems to me like she was one of the early ones who made militant atheism popular in this country. There were apparently other, less infamous versions of her sprouting up around the country at this time, but she was the loudest voice & who others gravitated to.

People who aren't aware, even if they're atheists, s/b aware of her & how loud a voice she was. I had no idea who she was until I listened to the audiobook a year ago or so.

I am not surprised by her comments. She seemed like an angry, bitter woman. It was a shame how she, her other son, and granddaughter all died though.

I read the story about how she, her other son, granddaughter and an employee of their Atheist group were kidnapped and murdered by a former employee.(For money) Very sad. Whoever said (was it Dostoesvsky?)that without God everything is permitted?
A miracle that her one son became a Christian, by the grace of God.

It doesn't surprise me one bit. Madalyn Murray O'Hare was a wretch, an awful, terrible, truly despicable human being. She was on a moral par with Hitler and Stalin, but she never gained the level of power they did, because while she was certainly as dysfunctional as they were, she wasn't anywhere near as intelligent as they were.

What an absolute horrible person. It is not enough that she is free to practise what she wanted but she thoroughly unrelentingly campaigned to force others to comply to her way of life.

I live in a multiracial country which of course means a multi-faith society by stats alone. While there are tensions popping up here and there, by and large the moderates in society promptly stomp out the crazies before they tear us apart. We put up with each others' religious and cultural needs even when sometimes the needs get in our way.

Because a society that enforces total neutrality, equality and secularism only leads to the lowest common denominator in life which is misery. You can't exercise and do what makes you happy due to the fear that it may offend someone else and vice verse. Therefore no one in society is truly happy. Walking on egg shells all the time.

Really glad her son got away from that circle of hell.

People who's drive in life is indignation seldom are intelligent. Which is a blessing in disguise, one wouldn't want to have a highly capable wretched human running the house. As it is she has done enough damage to society.

She was a bitter, angry woman. I'm not surprised in the least. Watch some of her interviews. She is very unpleasant.

I agree. I've seen her in videos and there's always a look of fear in her eyes--like she knows what she's doing is wrong, she just doesn't care.

Just read a wiki entry and a few articles on her. Everything said in the OP article are unfortunately true. She really is a wretched person in life. But kinda a sad end for her. Sad as in the circumstance of the event not the emotion. Kidnapped and murdered for money from a former employee of American Atheist.

Regardless may she find whatever semblance of her version of peace in death that she is unable to find in life. Though as Christians we can give an educated guess as to her eternal fate. May the Lord be merciful and deal with her in His Wisdom.
