You know, my church, which has limited leadership and all that, kind of desperately needed someone for this area of ministry, but I don't actually know any songs for children. What I'd like to do is the following:
1. Keep them feeling that singing and praising God through song is good, and doesn't need to be something to feel selfconscious about. (ultimate goal)

2. Have the songs be fun but also have the Gospel in them.

I have to admit that while I'm trained in church leadership I've never trained for this area--but I do love children and want to teach the Gospel, and the kids love me so far, but I'd like to be prepared in case the other leader, who normally leads worship, isn't there, and I'm exploring thoughts.

I have used Child Evangelism Fellowship visualized songs since the seventies. Also check out CEF of Long Beach. A series of song books is Salvation Songs for Children. Whatever you use the key is your enthusiasm. A great system for teaching a new song is the IPEAR method. Introduce the song, Present the song(sing it), Explain what it's teaching, Apply it to the chilren's lives, Repeat the song. Good luck and may the Lord bless your work.

For a long time we never really used sining with our young people, (Yes I am very ashamed!) But recently we took our children to see Doug Horley (Duggie, Dug, Dug) in concert and now every Kids club and Sunday school we use his C.D and action D.V.D. the children love the songs and dancing around to them; Ive also noticed a big change in there attitude to worship during the Sunday service. Wish we had started this a long time ago.

Honestly, go to your local Bible bookstore, they should have a collection of DVD's with kids songs on them. We use some Hillsong Kids, Shout Praises Kids and various other DVD's. Also starting this month we will be using a live worship band once per month.

If you don't have a local Bible bookstore try online places, even Amazon has them.

There was a "Kid's Praise" series of records and tapes (what Christian kid didn't love good old "Psalty" back in the day?) from when I was young, but I just know that the series is timeless enough to use for today's generation (if you can find them on CD).

That's my personal recommendation.

Those were good (and still are)! I remember them fondly. "Happiness is the Lord" is one of my favorites.

Go through your old VBS curriculums - you'll find good resources there. Your church has already paid for that music, might as well use it.

Our kids are into the GoFish guys at present. I think they are worth checking out.

I use a variety of stuff, and tend to go through Brentwood kids for productions (everything else is too expensive for us). I look for music that has a split track so that the kids can sing in church without the vocals.

I highly recommend UpWard Bound Made 2 Praise DVDs by Uncle Charlie. Each DVD has a combination of fun activity songs, praise songs, and a couple of slow songs for worship. My opinion is they are the best children ministry music out there.
