We read in James 1:27: "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."

Has anyone on here studied this subject biblically and with regard historically as to what the situation was with orphans and widows of their day and time and culture? Where did they live? Who cared for them? What were their means of financial support? I have not delved into this historically, which I am most certain was probably a much different situation than we have presently in the USA (where I live) in 2025. And what do you believe this should realistically look like in my culture today? Or in your culture?
