For those who don't know, "This Present Darkness" was a great book by Frank Peretti that featured spiritual warfare. I thought they were going to make a movie based on it, but I don't think they ever did. Anyone know why not?

Why wasn't "This Present Darkness" ever made into a movie?

Someone told me that Steven Spielberg bought the rights to it a long time ago. I'm not sure if this is true and if so, what's preventing it from being made.
However, now that The Passion has been such a financial success, I can see more "religious" movies coming out of Hollywood. Sorry to say, but the reason it hasn't been made is probably because no one figured it would be a success.
I read the book about 6 months ago and think it would make an awesome movie...

Frank Peretti’s ‘This Present Darkness’ is a truly excellent story ideal for Hollywood adaption. However, if Steven Spielberg did buy the rights (I also heard he did around 30 years ago) it may never see the light of day as a Christian interpretation as Spielberg is Jewish and whilst he has the rights (if Peretti did indeed sell them to him) no-one else is allowed to make it.
