Down at the church (DeSoto AoG) we do contemporary noise, Hillsong stuff, etc. I used to play BAss in the "Worship team", but gave that over to a younger fellow who's GOOD at it, and really Likes that kind of music.

I'm Bluegrass all the way, so I get my "Christian Music fix" from Bluegrass Jams and Oprys in our area (South Dallas).

My Favorites are the Issacs, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and Alison Krauss & Union Station.

Normally I listen to Me (the Highlanders band, Texas Prairie Band, Mountain Creek Express, and Cedar Junction Bluegrass Band) I play what I Like, in the way that I like it. and I enjoy listening to it afterwards.

I mostly like Praise & Worship music, though I do listen to contemporary stuff on Air1 or KLove.

Right now some of my favorites: Hillsong, Hillsong Spanish (Spa -En La Cruz is my 2nd fav song right now), Chris Tomlin, Jesus Culture (my favorite song right now is "Fill Me Up"), Marcos Witt (Spa), Daniel Montero (Spa), En Espirtu y en Verdad (Spa), Misty Edwards, Michael W. Smith, Ben Cantalon, Donnie McClurkin ("Speak to my heart") Bob Fitts singing "Glory Glory Lord" in English, Hawaiian, and Samoan, Kim Walker, Laura Hackett (my 3rd favorite song right now is "He's Alive" umm so many more artists ETC.

For more comtemporary radio type: I like Lecrae, Kirk Franklin ("Lift my hands" & "Stomp"), and some of Skillet. I love Britt Nicole.

I just want to see, that "I have decided to follow Jesus" is amazing whether it is being sung at my old Intervarsity Christian Fellowship at UC Davis or in Spanish at a pentecostal church in Nicaragua of atleast 500 people as people accept Jesus for the first time.

@Bob, I like Bluegrass too. My dad is a big fan and a lot of our friends like bluegrass and so it kind of rubbed off on me as well. All the Bluegrass I know is secular stuff like Peter Rowan or Utah Phillips though.A little Gordon Lighfoot maybe. What is your favorite Christian bluegrass song? I'm always looking for something new to add to my playlist.

@Charismatic, the great thing about Spanish worship music is that it is the same style as what you are probably used to from your church. Youtube is great because they include the lyrics. You don't even have to know every word, just the what it symbolizes (as with the English songs). I'm Anglo but I love the Spanish church so it pushes me to practice everyday.

@storm, have you seen the youtube video where the kids remixed Tik Tok to a Christian version?

I have an iTunes playlist just for my Christian music. Here are the artists that are in it:
  • Hillsong United
  • Casting Crowns
  • Skillet
  • Jesus Culture
  • Hillsong
  • Newsboys
  • Chris Tomlin
  • Third Day

I listen to these 99% of the time that I am listening to music. I even listen to these when I am at the gym. :p

In Christian music, I listen to Contemporary Christian (I especially like Casting Crowns, Brandon Heath and Bob Dylan's three Christian albums), Christian Rap (Lecrae, Shai Linne), Christian Metal (Demon Hunter) and Gospel (Kirk Franklin is notable for gospel/rap cross-over).

In secular music, I like rock (especially punk, metal and "classic rock that really rocks"), reggae, jazz, classical, blues and bluegrass (I'm a huge Alison Krauss fan; she has an amazing voice; is usually classified as bluegrass and secular, but does many Christian songs).

An artist I like who's hard to fit into any category is Matisyahu, a Hasidic Jew who does kind of rap/reggae/rock fusion in praise of God.

Contemporary Christian music lost me after services routinely began providing mosh pits for attendees. Those of all ages rush to the front of the stage, only to be blasted by decibel levels far above 85.

As the result of being near artillery while in the military, and from working with pneumatic tools, I am hearing disabled and my ears loudly ring 24/7. I have not known silence since 1972. Noise damage to ears is hugely on the rise today because of loud music heard through ipods, MP3 players and concerts. Christian organizations, who encourage and promote loud concerts dish out tinnitus unconscienably. They act like the devil's friend when as they help to create more and more deafness and tinnitus (ringing ears).

So beware. What you put into your ears can create a lifetime of destruction and torment.

Contemporary Christian and Apologetix (It's a Christian band who sings Christian versions of secular songs.)

ApologetiX is good. I have a couple of their albums right now; in the hopes of getting more. I understand that there are people who frown upon what this group - and others like them - does (and that's their conviction, of course), but I actually think it's wonderful, as many people who casually hear it may recognize the tunes, but at the same time get strong Bible-centered messages implanted in them as they hear.

Hi brothers / sisters,

I wanted to thank you for this post, for all the band names.

I really like :
Chris Tomlin
Matt Redman
Aaron Keyes

In fact I know these worship singers through a website (worshiptogether).
I'm in France and most of the time the songs are English ones translated in French.

I'll listen to the bands and I'm sure I'll find great worship songs.

Be blessed
