hi

ummm. what is a novina?

i have a very sweet friend who gave me a novina (it has st.theresa on it and its called a novina rose prayer.) since i am not catholic, i'm not sure what its for, so i thought i'd ask you, since you're all so nice. :)

thanks!
It is a urgent request. The word novena means nine. This represents the apostles praying for nine days for the out pouring of the HS to come.

It is like when protestants get on the phone and do their prayer chain deal when they have a urgent need or request. What they do is they rally those on earth to pray for them in a pinch, we do that too but we also “call up” the saints in heaven and ask them for help too. The novena prayed on nine consecutive days or lighting a candle and leaving that burn is us keep watch- us keeping a vigil until our request is granted.

St. Therese is a patron saint of Missions, tuberculosis, and also florists I believe along with other things. I feel like the forums St. Therese expert! I've had people pm things concerning her!

It makes me sad, poor St. Therese, her desire to live a hidden life, isn't met anymore! She's no longer hidden! :(

BTW, you probably have the St. Therese Holy Card! Is it like a card, has a picture on the front done by her sister, Celine? (Sr. Genvieve of the Holy Face) And has a little bit on her life on one side, an invocation on the other and the rose prayer on the back? If so, that's it!

That was the first time I saw St. Therese, I blew it off, and then blew off learning of her even after I had miraculous rose smelling, dresser drawers which no explanation for that! I finally read about her eventually though and that did it for me!
