What is a KING JAMES ONLY Church?

This is very important. I have been asked would I be "interested" in Pastoring a King James Only church down in Jacksonville Florida..Anybody know what that is exactly?
Any complaints against that kind of church?

King James Onlyism is the belief that ONLY the King James Version is the Word of God". They believe that all Bible versions are corrupt and inspired by Satan. It is a divisive movement and teaches another Gospel.

As far as I know Mormans are a KJV only church and look where that got them!!

But seriously, I am concerned for churches who only accept the KJV. The KJV is a good translation for the archaic toungue, yet there are some quite appauling errors, ex: the creation of the name Jehova, which doesn't exist. Also the KJV is responisble for Easter being named Easter in the English language. Easter is a pagan festival for some pagan goddess around this time of year, unfortunately KJV translated Passover into Easter, so now we are stuck with the pagan name.

I just know about the KJV though, and not so much about the churches. I really think that if you do Pastor it, at least you could explain them the errors that the KJV contains, otherwise they might end up like the mormans.

They argue that the KJV if an inspired and inerrant translation. I have the same problems with this as I do with those who claim the same of the Latin Vulgate. There is no such thing as an inerrant translation.

I think some believe the KJO is a cult but I would have to do some checking.

KJV-Onlyist churches (and I went to one thrice) are one, long, fire-and-brimstone, no-good-fruits, and misinterpretated-from-the-Bible sermon after another.

Yes; most are usually chuck-full of heresies as well. The worst of which is idol worship; the idol being the KJV.

To be fair to the Mormons, this is simply not the case. Although they have their own augmented form of the KJV that they use in their churches, Mormons are welcome to use pretty much any translation.

It does have many cult-like tendencies to it. Regardless whether KJV-Onlyism and KJV-O churches are cults or not, they are something to be weary of and to be avoided.

Yes, I just do not know for sure, I have not had the time to research. Another forum I had been involved with there was a thread from here to Kingdom Come regarding this issue.

I remember the points that were made there were very solid but I can not remember for the life of me what they were. So I decided to mention that aspect to Joev while doing research so to be sure that all aspects are covered. Thanks for the clarification

KJV only is one of those unfortunate raving loony positions that ensnares some Christians from time to time. My dad owns a few books written by those damning other Bible versions. I read them whenever I want a good laugh.

Here's a quote to show you what they're on about:

I had no idea that there were whole churches based on this. That's downright scary.

I have had personal aquaintances with KJV Only believers. With all respect to these people, though I believe that they are wrong re: their attitudes toward the KJV compared to other translations, I believe that they are sincere Christians who want nothing more than to follow the Lord Jesus.

One woman I've met online in the past came from a cult background. In her intense desire to avoid being ensnared ever again by doctrinal error and deception, she got rid of all the Bible translations that she read at the time she fell into error. That left nothing but the KJV as the translation she felt she could trust. Another just feels that the KJV is THE best bible translation for all serious Christians to read and study. As a Chaplain's Assistant in the Army, I have met several soldiers who simply prefer the KJV.

The major stumbling block with most KJV christians is that they believe there is such a thing as a "divinely inspered" translation. I have quite a problem trying to explain that I believe the scriptures are inspired in the original autographs...but that there's no such thing as an "inspired translation". BTW - I do enjoy reading from the KJV from time to time.

I am a KJO believe so let me explain what it REALLY is since it has been so misrepresented here.
We believe the KJV is the word of God translated into English from the Texus Receptus, the accurate manuscripts of the Holy Scriptures.
We have confidence to memorize scripture because we know it won't be revised next year. We read the bible TOGETHER because we all have the same version, we have unity.
King James Onlyism is NOT a cult. It simply refers to those believers in Christ who believe that the King James Version of the bible is superior in accuracy to copyrighted paraphrases currently being marketed. Most have been raised to memorize the beautiful Elizabethan language and do not want to waste time relearning the now familiar bible verses. Others have studied long and hard about how different versions were translated and want to have an accurate translation of the Word of God.
King James Onlyism does not worship the bible. The bible is not kissed, bowed to or prayed to. The scriptures are the words of the God we love.
King James Onlyism rejects all other bibles. There can only be ONE word of God. While many churches have forsaken reading the bible out loud because of the different wording of different versions, KJVO churches often read the bible together. This is only possible if you share the same book.
The King James Bible is archaic. While churches that use modern versions of the bible still sing hymns such as "How Great Thou Art", they feel that the bible doesn't deserve the same respect. The difference between 'ye' and 'thee' is singular and plural. In modern English, there is not distinction. This explains the growing confusion in so many churches that accept homosexuality and abortion and evolution. Being unable to determine the tense and context of a verse is a handicap to the Christian.

There are two types of KJV-O, those like you who just think it is the best version, and then there are those who think it is an infallible translation. Usually when we refer to KJV-O, we are talking about the second group.

I am the second group. If the bible is fallable how can it possibly be of God? If the bible is fallable why read it at all? How do you what parts to believe? Just the ones one agree with? The KJ is the best version because it's God's word and God's word is TRUE.

Everything in the original text is infallible and true. Translations always contain errors, the KJV being no exception.

Wow...I don't think I've seen such gross generalizations in a long time.

KJV only is not a cult. They simply believe that the KJV Bible is the inspired Word of God and other translations (because they were translated from different manuscripts) are more apt to error. For comparisons between the translations that have lead to this, look at http://www.ecclesia.org/truth/m-m.html. It shows where verses are changed/removed/etc from NIV in comparison to KJV.

I'm not trying to start a debate as to what version is the best. Personally, I love my NIV. However, I use it with my KJV, comparing the 2 constantly.

I'm not KJV-only, but that is how I grew up. They do NOT believe (at least not as a whole) that other translations are from Satan. They simply believe that the manuscripts that were used (the 2 manuscripts that had been rejected countless years before) were corrupt. The manuscripts that were used prior were used for all english translations of the Bible until the "new" translations of NIV, NLT, NASB, etc. came along.

Again, I'm not KJV-only, but I hate to see such misrepresentations about them.

Wow. That's about the worse misrepresentation I have seen. And so far from the truth that it isn't funny. Three times in a church and suddenly, all are heresy teaching, no-fruit bearing, Bible worshipping people. Hmmm... Right.

My recommendation to the OP - check the church out for yourself. Seek God's wisdom in this, not man's...because men don't always know God's will and plan. Don't take the words of people on a message board - take God's word. If this is where He is leading you, then great, if not, then that's great too, He has bigger and better plans. But bear in mind, if God wants you there, often Satan uses any means possible to try to sway your decision...and a message board may be one of Satan's tools. Take the advice with a grain of salt. God's opinion is the only one that matters!!!

As a historian, I think I can say with some level of authority that this is not true.

I've personally read the 1st Edition Geneva Bible which was written about 50 years before the 1611 KJV was written. Even the Douay-Rheims translated was finished just a few years before the 1611 KJV. And let's not forget the Bishop's Bible, Matthew's Bible, and all the others. How about even the Vulage? Entire ancient Greek Bibles with the Old and New Testaments?
