This is the greeting that all Orthodox Christians use during the 40-day paschal period. It emphasizes the importance and centrality of the resurrection of Christ. Orthodox Christians are encouraged to use this greeting with each other in place of a simple "Hello" or "How are you?" Some even put it on their answering machines at home or on their cell phones, which is a very neat way to witness to Jesus Christ.

The ancient Christians from the first century greeted each other with a version of "Christ is risen!", that is, "The Lord is risen", to identify themselves to each other as followers of Christ and to edify each other with the message that became, and continues to be, the cornerstone of the Christian Faith.

God bless, :liturgy:

The response is "Anesti Alithos" or "Alithos Anesti"

(He is risen indeed)

I think the actual Greek characters are:

Χριστος Ανεστη (Christos Anesti)

Ανεστη Αληθως (Anesti Alithos)
Actually it is Alithos Anesti the other way around....:)

When I was in college I did not know any other Orthodox Christian there, but my sophomore year I wanted to start an OCF chapter but I still did not know if there were others that would join and I needed 100 signatures for my University to recognize us. As I was walking down a friends dorm hallway I saw Χριστος Ανεστη on a girl's white board not only did I meet a new friend, I knew that we would reach our goal!!
