What does this mean? Mark 13:14 quote inside

This is from Mark 13:14:

14 “The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration[a] standing where he[b] should not be.” (Reader, pay attention!) “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills.

Can anyone tell me what this is refering to? What is the sacreligious object other times refered to as the abomination of desolation..or something like that.

Its a loaded question, and been open for debate in bible schools for a while.

My take on it is simply this.
JESUS is talking to his very Jewish disciples, who were asking HIM specifically
about the temple (which was the center of life to the Jews).

The temple by the way is now us. (those that follow JESUS) 1 Corinthians 3:16

JESUS warned them: "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near." Luke 21:20

Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city" Luke 21:22

JESUS was warning his followers, that when this comes, dont wait around,
dont waste time, but run - flee!

From history we find that, every early church member mostly made up of Jewish believers of course) all fled to the hills, nobody died.

A little latter JESUS says to some mothers, while HE is carrying the cross:
Jesus turned and said to them, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children." Luke 23:38

Because in one generation (to a Jew, that was 40 years), judgement is coming.

These mothers, will be older and have sons that will all die in the attack and
sack of Jerusalem by Rome in AD 70.

Since the Jewish Temple and Worship system has been entirely wiped out, they
still mourn over its loss in their yearly sad day of Tisha B'Av which they remember.

In AD70, the temple priests, blood was shed at the alter, mixing their (human) blood
with the sacrifice and the entire temple (even the holy of holies, where no man
could enter) was destroyed.

They saw the 'dog's', the gentiles, entering the holy place and killing their priests.
Shedding blood in the temple, and then ripping every stone apart, with not one
stone laying on the other. Matthew 24:2 The reason is that each stone was
laid on a layer of gold - the gold was in the mortar between the stones!

Its all about the prophetic word, for the future of the early church and Israel.

Repeats a prophecy recorded in Daniel 9:27 about the desecration of the temple under the Seleucids (1 Maccabees 1:54-59). Jesus announces a new desolation and destruction of the Jerusalem temple, which will be carried out by the Roman in AD 70. This event will end all temple worship and sacrifice. But these desolation are but a taste of what lies in the future.

we use different versions, so I'm not accustomed to yours ... please allow me while I use the KJV ...

the first thing is that the 13th chapter of mark concerns the end times (you probably know that) ... it correlates with Matthew 24 and and Luke 21 and scriptures in Daniel ...

signs of the end

But when ye shall see the abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,
standing where it ought not, (let him that

He is called the abomination because he makes the souls of people desolate (barren, parched, destroyed, waste, devestated, etc) ... he does this by taking away Truth and replacing it with lies ... At a point in time he will rule from the Temple Mount (the holy place) in Jerusalem. It's telling those in Jerusalem to get out and don't let others in becuse this is where all heck will breaak loose and the Lord will level Jerusalem ... His people are to watch for this one ... he will end worshop of God and the taking of communion ... his agenda includes much abominations against the Lord and the Lords commandments (much filthy actions and lies) ...

it's of utmost importance these scriptures be read and rightly divided (rightly divided means seperating the flesh teaching from the spiritual teaching) ... He says He is a Spirit and we must worship Him in the Spirit and in truth ...

the part in Mark 17,18 means don't be harvested out of season ... iow, don't be decieved and be led away by the false one ... wheat isn't harvested in the winter ... it's harvested during the real harvest time ... those that are with child are those sleeping in the enemies bed, so to speak ... whoring around with the enemy ... and with child is just not a good thing ... spiritually ... it means working for the enemy ...

the consummation means the end ... he won't let up ...

there will be those who will prepare the way by instituting the abominable things not of the Lord ... they pollute the Lord's sanctuary with things not of the Lord ...

two things here ... the abomination will in no way be glorifying the Lord ... and the Lord will save us out of it ... trust Him ... and wait for Him ... don't be deceived ... stay in His Word and learn, learn, learn and watch, watch, watch ... and don't get caught up in mans ideas of it all ... stick to the scriptures and ask the lord to give you understanding and wisdom to go with it ... he will guide you into all Truth ...

he will do exactly as he pleases and very blatantly put himself above all and blaspheme the lord ... it will continue until the time the lord has decided it will be done ... the Lord's will will be done ... He doesn't lie ... it will take place and the Lord is always in control ...

Very true and wise advice....

The key in all things is to focus on Jesus, not man or man's doctrine on things. It is not important for us to focus on when the end times are. They began when Jesus ascended in to Heaven and ONLY God the Father knows the date and time. If we are living our lives in Christ and following the leading of the Holy Spirit, nothing matters about the end times. All that matters is that we fulfill God's purpose for our lives and in our lives. To become consumed with the end times is to move our focus away from Christ Jesus and God' purpose for our lives. So many unsaved folks, so little time.........No. So many unsaved folks, so much opportunity for me to share my Lord and Savior with them. For He, and He alone is THE ANSWER to ALL of their problems. I have to do my best to at least introduce them to Him, gently, lovingly, accepting them where they are, and forgiving them as He forgave me.

If I accomplish only that, I will be ready when He comes again, as a thief in the night, unannounced.

Appears there are two things Jesus was elaborating upon.

And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? <-----> Matthew 24:3

The first one was in regards to the destruction of the temple building in Jerusalem.

The second is in reference to certain significant events which shortly precede Christ's Second Coming and the end of this world.

With regards to the end times REVELATION CHAPTER 13 speaks of a "revived beast" who is given power by the dragon, and this beast deceives and instructs humans to make an image of the beast, to which the beast "gives life", so that image does speak, and whoever does not worship that image is reckoned worthy of death, by the beast, and cut off from "buying and selling".

It appears that History tends to be repeated, in 2 KINGS CHAPTER 21 an evil king set up an evil graven image in the house of The Lord.

And in the last days Satan/the dragon will use the beast to deceive people to do this again, only this time the image will be "high tech", and be able to speak.

Whereupon, a death decree and an economic exclusion will occur towards all who refuse to worship this "abomination" of an image. Which once again gives way to the instruction of fleeing to the "hills", or remote places to seek refuge from the corrupt (temporary) rulers of this world.

Satan's plan is to force us to be scared into denying The Lord, and at the same time attempt to provoke The Lord into disowning/destroying us, by pressuring us to do what The Lord sees as being altogether loathsome, namely image/idol worship.

Perhaps it's wise and prudent to brush up on our wilderness survival skills ?

Dependency upon man/this modern world alone, may indeed make it harder to refuse the beast's call to worship the image, the abomination which makes desolate...for once one chooses to worship that image, they are choosing to become desolate of God's Mercy & Grace.

... If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
And the smoke of their torment ascends up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name. <-----> Revelation 14:9-11

With what has been shown this pilgrim, it appears this end time beast will rise to power in about 26 years.

Yet, there's no time like the present for serving The Lord as much as we've been enabled !
