Hi guys,

I wanted to ask for your opinions here. I might not be the smartest guy in the world so that is probably why I haven't figured this out yet, but what is the song My Immortal about? To me the Immortal part speaks of God, but the lyrics don't speak of that at all.

To me it is like someone who went away, and all the pain still lingers and the anguish of having to deal with it.

Anyways, any thoughts would be appreciated. Make me smarter than I am, I need all the help I can get!

MY IMMORTAL
==================
i'm so tired of being here
suppressed by all of my childish fears
and if you have to leave
i wish that you would just leave
because your presence still lingers here
and it won't leave me alone

these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase

when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me

you used to captivate me
by your resonating light
but now i'm bound by the life you left behind
your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase

when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me

i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
and though you're still with me
i've been alone all along

Its a love song, mourning the death of a deceased lover. The "immortal" of the title could either refer to her eternal and undying love or could be a veiled refrance to the fact the dead lover lives on in heaven, given that some members of the band are Christians. Personaly I suspect the former is the case (ie. that the immortal refers to her undying emotion).

Its becomming way over played... dont get me wrong, they are a good band... but I wish the radio wouldnt kill decent songs by over play :sigh:
You got that right! But now it's being replaced by Hoobastank's "The Reason." I like the song because it can easily be sang as a christian song if you think about it, but I'm hearing it all the time now.

I see it as a love song. She had a boyfriend and he left her but she can't get over her love for him. She was there for him always and her love is unconditional.

Actually, that is what I was thinking too. I was thinking of it from my point of view though - man to women! :)

Okay, here's some input from a diehard Evanescence fan!

Evanescence was on MuchMusic back in Dec., and Amy took some time to explain the meaning of "My Immortal." From what I remember, she said it was about having recurrent memories about a lost loved one, and wanting their presence to go away. So it sounds like this song's about the a living person wanting the memories of their deceased loved one to leave them once an for all. Kinda depressing, really. But still, a nice song.

On an unrelated note, do you guys prefer the single version of this song or the album version? I personally prefer the latter.

It has two meanings, I'm an Evanescence lover:

1. True Fan Analysis - If you notice during the video, Amy never touches the ground, symbolizes she isn't dead. The children are representing ben (member of band) and amy's relationship. Basically:

a) It's about you loving someone and them not loving you back

OR

b) someone you love has died, but you cannot yet get over the pain of them passing.

Whoa! No offense, but the last time I heard about the groups' religion was that they were all atheists. I would say that this is a Christian song, but seeing as how they are believed to be atheists, at least by me, I would say that this a about a person EXTREMLY close to a member dying, or, perhaps, leaving them. If you have seen the movie Dare Devil, this song is palyed the the funeral of the girl whose father (who was in fact, very clsoe to her). That's just my view on this song. It's actually pretty good in my opinion, with the music. I also like Bring Me To Life, and Haunted by them, but those are a completely different subject...

Thats why I have all my CD's too my computer so I can always burn another copy if that happens...not that I listen to CD's I only use them as backup since I have an mp3 player but...yeah. I do believe Amy Lee sayed she was a Christian.
