Not long ago, I was studying a book on spiritual warfare, and I was wondering about how the Word of God, as armor can be used as a weapon towards the evil one. Then, God reveals one instance in which the Word of God can be quoted as a weapon against the evil one. According to the Word of God, Jesus death on the cross had stripped the power of the evil one away from them, and made a spectacle of them. According to this Word, the devil in reality has no power over us. Jesus blood had cleansed us from all holds the devil had over us. Therefore, we could claim victory over every single aspect of our life, victory over our homes, over our evil desires, over every kind of addictions that we were in bondage to. If we ever went to a court with the devil, the devil will lose his case because the law of the court had changed. It used to be in his favor, but now after Jesus death, it was changed to something that was in our favor. The devil could no more condemn or accuse us, or hold us in bondage to any and every kind of sins, because Jesus blood had erased away from him all his rights to hold us captive to sins. Every hold the devil still had over us is illegal. The devil has no right to do so. He has to go, he is no longer our owner, and he is no longer our master.
Then, I ask God, If this is really the case, if the devil is really armless, and can no longer hold your people in captive because he had lost the right to do so since the death of Jesus, why are your people still living in bondage to the devil? Why is the power of evil so prevalent in the world today, with your people being trapped even in the clutch of it?
The Lord then showed me the analogy of the cockroach, which is really what I want to share with you, today.
According to the truth, the cockroach is much smaller than a human being. A cockroach cannot bite; a cockroach cannot win in a fight with a human being in a one on one battle. The match is overly in favor of a human. With just one foot, a human being can stomp on the cockroach and crushes it. The cockroach, in open confrontation cannot pose a threat to the human being at all. That is the truth. That is reality. It is same with the devil. According to the Bible (the truth), the devil has to flee if we resist him, because he has no power over us, anymore. With just one foot (using the name of Jesus), we can trample on him. We are given the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions. That is the truth.
However, in a real life situation in Singapore, a small tiny island somewhere in Southeast Asia, a woman or a lady, when confronted with the cockroach, the woman or lady will run away from the cockroach instead of stepping on it with her foot and killing it, instantly. According to the truth, a woman or lady has the power to kill the cockroach and end its threatening presence in her house. Why is she running away from the cockroach, instead?
That is because she is brought up since she is a child to fear the cockroach, to fear its power over her life. Even after she comes to know the truth about how she is really stronger than the cockroach and can kill it with her foot, the fear of her past continues to still holds her in bondage and traps her to continue to be afraid of a cockroach that has lost its power over her. The women around her do not help much, either. They are always screaming in fear of cockroaches, and that reinforce in her the thought that the cockroach is something to be fearful of. It is the same with us. We have the Word of God, the truth with us, which tells us about how the devil really has no hold over our life, anymore. The devil is a defeated foe; he has lost his complete power over us. Why are we still living in fear and sins? Firstly, we are brought up in a culture that glorifies the power of evil. Ever since young, we are influenced by the cultures around us, that often glorify sins and evil, and we come to believe that the power of evil is stronger than the power of God. Secondly, the people around us do not help much, either because they are constantly living a defeated life, living their lives as if sins and evil have more power, in reality than God. Therefore, even though the truth states that the devil is no match from us, in our fear, in our bondage to our cultures and upbringings, the devil continues to be able to have a hold in our lives. We run away from the devil, and remains in bondage to him instead of trampling on him with our feet like how we have the authority to do so, now.
According to the truth, the devil knows he is no match for us. That is why Peter warns us in one of his book to always be on our guard because our enemy the devil roars like a lion, looking for someone to devour. The devil knows he cannot win us in open confrontation because of the name of Jesus that we hold in our hands. His only way to harm us is to hurt us from the dark. It is always his tactic to secretly introduce sins and wrong teachings and deception in our lives rather than to do so in an open way.
This tactic of the enemy can also be seen in the analogy of the cockroach. The cockroach knows it has no chance over a human being if it confronts a human being head on. Unless the human being is afraid of it, like the way a woman is afraid of it, it has no chance over a human being at all. A man who is not afraid of the cockroach can easily squash it with one foot. The cockroachs only chance to strike back and cause harm to a human being is to work in darkness and secret.
When the human being is asleep, the cockroach secretly comes out of its hiding place to go into uncovered food left in shelves and tables by the careless human. The cockroach, when it touches the food contaminates the food with its filth and dirt. The next morning, when a human being awakes and eats the food that has been contaminated by the cockroach, he will be sick, and he will have a food poisoning. Although the cockroach cannot harm the human being in a direct confrontation, the cockroach is able to cause some harm to a human being through a contamination of the humans food.
This is how the devil works against us. The devil knows he has no power in a direct confrontation with us, because of the authority Jesus has given to us to trample on scorpions and snakes and to overcome the evil ones. Therefore, the devil chooses to work in secret. He secretly contaminates our spiritual food, the Word of God that we take in, by introducing destructive heresies and false doctrines, and wrong applications of the Word of God. Therefore, we must always be on our guard against the devils attacks on our spiritual food, and be careful not to take in contaminated teachings/doctrines that will cause us to end up with spiritual food poisoning.
I hope my sharing is of an encouragement to you, today.
