Hi there, I didn't know where to post this, but this seems like the right spot. ^-^

As someone who is not affiliated with a religion when it comes to spiritual protection I have used (past tense) various methods that are related to new age practices. I used to sage my house, I used protection crystals, I'd say various prayers and I would even make my own Holy Water. As I understand it; this could be considered witchcraft and is seen as a sin. We are supposed to rely on God for protection and call upon him in Jesus’ name. Not a plant or crystals. Any time I bless my house I do so in the name of Jesus Christ. I used to (past tense) cleanse my home especially my bedroom every Sunday. It was basically my version of church. See Matthew 6:5 - Matthew 6:6 to understand why I don't go to church.

Is there something wrong with this practice?

In an effort to please God and show that I am repenting and turning away from sin I removed all things of temptation, which includes things like pornography. I am making real changes in my life for God. In an effort to 'make things right' I recently removed all of my protection crystals and stopped burning sage. I STOPPED NEW AGE PRACTICES to transition to Christianity. I have already accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior and I've made very real and very big changes to my life. Quite literally nothing in my life is the same and this process has been taking place over the past four years.

The problem is the spirit or negative entity in this house goes on the attack when I do nothing. The longer I go without burning sage and clearing the energy the worse the negative activity becomes. I don't want to do anything that can be seen as sin in the eyes of the Lord, but I don't want to make myself vulnerable to attack from negative spirits. Whatever this thing is in my house it makes me physically sick. It stands at the foot of my bed. It shakes my bed. It messes around in both of my closets. It has been making me feel like I have something wrong with my heart the past few weeks. In fact, that's what the original owner of this house died from; heart problems / stroke. Everyone in this house is sick (rapid heart rates and high blood pressure). Every animal on this property both indoors and outdoors gets sick and dies. This has been going on for about 17 years now. These are exactly the kinds of things negative spirits are capable of causing.

All I know is that when I would (past tense) burn sage, use protection crystals, sprinkle Holy Water and say prayers in the name of Jesus Christ the air gets lighter and everything eases off for about a week. The fact that I had (past tense) to do it so often suggests this could be demonic in origin. I was just wondering what else exists within a Christian's arsenal? That's all...

I would normally cleanse my home especially my bedroom every Sunday. It was basically my version of church.

Is there something wrong with this practice?

Yes.

First, because such things do nothing good. And second, because doing those things is not church.

As someone who is not affiliated with a religion when it comes to spiritual protection

I am a little confused by this. You identify yourself as a nondenominational Christian (which here on CF means that you accept the SoF -- see this list), but you don't go to church, and you say things like this. Are you a Christian?

If you are not a Christian, see here. There is no "spiritual protection" for non-Christians.

.
Confessing sin tends to help with "bad vibes" because its an energetic representation of sin. Exposing what is hidden to the light tends to take the wind out of its sails. Sometimes having a "real talk" with the group involved where everyone has a chance to be genuine can dispel the bad energy.
.
There's another pervasive element I've been dealing with lately, not sure how to deal with it except with the christian disciplines I've learned over the years.

Prayer is my suggestion. It's not that I don't think the things you're doing don't have any kind of effect, it's that the Bible forbids their use.
Maybe things will get worse, but as the Bible has numerous examples of, God gives us opportunities to show we trust him. Maybe this is one of them. I'll pray too!

A hypothetical thought..evil spirits are masters of deception, right? What if they purposely lay off once you've done these things in order to deceive...

The OP spoke of "spiritual protection". I would ask "protection from what?". In my humble opinion we need only to be protected from ourselves and that does not involve rituals or prayers.

Well, using pagan sources to do a 'cleansing' I think might invite the wrong spirits. What you need to find is your spiritual authority. The demons tremble at Christ's name. Use that authority! Go around the house and cast out all demons in His name. I know when I feel an evil entity around me, especially at night, I pray to God and ask that He surround my house with angels to protect me. It usually works.

Hope that helps! :)

Many people will say there is something wrong with the things you are doing, but I don't think there is. I think you are doing great and are in a high place in your life! Do not let temptation pull you back down from what is yours, that's all that matters! Burning sage is fine as long as you don't put items in front of God.. Don't put too much faith in the sage to 'remove' demons or spirits, but have faith in your heart KNOWING that God will if you ask for his protection! All you're doing is keeping a long tradition you (at least once) thought to be true to some extent. People have been doing it for centuries. You're in the right place, I can tell :) Keep doing well and God bless you

Prayer is my suggestion.

You are right of course. But the first question is: is the OP a Christian?

In his other thread, the OP says:

I've never been to church a day in my life and I've never even read the Bible.

That suggests that the OP is not a Christian. In which case becoming a Christian would be the first thing to do. Again, I advise the OP to see here.

If not, the willingness to ask for Christian advice, and the speaking of trying to make real changes in life for God, it would seem God is working in the OP's life.

Of course, acceptance of Jesus's sacrifice is paramount!

Yes, indeed. But the OP would still need to become a Christian.

HIS advice is for you to get right with Him! How do you do that? Stop messing around! Open your Bible (do you have one) or click on these verses:

Romans 10:8-13
Romans 8:1
John 5:24
Ephesians 2:8-9

Until you enter into HIS embrace, all you are practicing is vanity.

Christian Seeker means I've found Christ, unlike the distinction "Seeker."

just haven't found a tradition that edifies the purpose God has given me yet. Doesn't stop me from edifying them in random fashion though.

I tried out the salt because there was a phenomena similar to sorcery in churches.

I'm going to jump into this with both feet, so to speak.

I have used sage to purge and glorify God. Not in the sense of seeking out a medium nor following First Nation practices, but to cleanse the home and dedicated it to the Lord as an offering of sweet aroma. I have also used it to honor His creation, and give me clarity of mind as I focus upon Him only.

Song of Solomon 4:14 - Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

And then remember that gold, frankincense, and myrhh were what the magi presented to Jesus... frankincense being a perfume/incense...to bless Him... we "know" the gold was symbolic for His Kingship and for the parents for the travel and lodging, the myrhh is an embalming herb as the symbol of their recognizing His future sacrifice...and the perfume/incense..... it represents His Priesthood as the Priests burn it as a sweet aroma to the LORD in the temple.

BUT with that said, I use the Holy Spirit and the authority Jesus gave to us through His Blood to keep me safe, to remove evil spirit from an area or around me. "Rebuke the devil and he will flee from you." The ONE thing I have found that the devil and his minions CAN NOT stick around to hear is claiming the power of the Blood of Jesus Christ.... out loud, with that authority.

Living the best life before God that I can, and trusting in Him so I stay in His will as much as possible for me, that is safety.

I am speaking about the physical life, to the soul (mind, will, emotions) and for the spiritual that is sealed by the Spirit from whence I accepted Christ's atonement for me.

I think it's important to consider that everything the devil has, new age or whatever, he perverted from God's creation.... whether that is misuse of the good things or twisting words.

And who are you to tell me that? The OP could be doing much worse things than burning sage, lol. They even said they've rid themselves on all pornography, which is an admirable goal. Maybe you should put down the gavel and open your mind to traditions from around the world. If burning the sage to them is a thing of good intentions, who are you to tell them not to do it? There is no difference in burning sage and having a catholic rosary or crucifix SMH.
Edit: your reply is also very arrogant and rude, you have a very holier-than-thou approach, which is disgraceful.

My apologies. I thought "seeker" indicated that one was still curious about Christianity. Be blessed in Him!
