I would like to take a look at some of the key words used in Reve 11:1, 2 in relation to the OT and Revelation and perhaps bring more clarification to that divine Covenantle Book

The word "Sanctuary"<3485>
The majority of Bible versions use the word "Temple"<2411>, which is never used in Revelation.

Here are the verses where the word Temple is used in YLT:

Genesis 1:1 (YLT)
G2411 ἱερόν (hieron) occurs 71 times in 67 verses [not used in Revelation]

Now the word Sanctuary is used in YLT:

Genesis 1:1 (YLT)
G3485
ναός (naos) occurs 46 times in 40 verses

Revelation 11:
1 And was given to me a reed like-as rod saying "rouse! and measure! the Sanctuary<3485> of God and the Altar[Golden Altar] and those worshiping in it
2 and the Court/fold<833>[Priests/Lavar/Altar of Sacrifice] outside of the Sanctuary, be casting-out!<1544> out-side<1854> and no it thou should be measuring, that it was given to the Gentiles/Nations.
And the holy City they shall be treading<3961>forty two months.

STRONGS NT 3485: ναός ναός, ναοῦ, ὁ (ναίω to dwell),
the Sept. for הֵיכָל, used of the temple at Jerusalem, but only of the sacred edifice (or sanctuary) itself, consisting of the Holy place and the Holy of holies (in classical Greek used of the sanctuary or cell of a temple, where the image of the god was placed, called also δόμος, σηκός, which is to be distinguished from τό ἱερόν, the whole temple, the entire consecrated enclosure; this distinction is observed also in the Bible;
see ἱερόν, p. 299{a}): Matthew 23:16f, 35 27:40; Mark 14:58; Mark 15:29; John 2:19; Revelation 11:2; nor need Matthew 27:5 be regarded as an exception, provided we suppose that Judas in his desperation entered the Holy place, which no one but the priests was allowed to enter ((note the εἰς (others, ἐν) of T Tr WH)). with Θεοῦ, τοῦ Θεοῦ, added: Matthew 26:61; 1 Corinthians 3:17; 2 Corinthians 6:16; 2 Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 11:1; used specifically of the Holy place, where the priests officiated: Luke 1:9, 21f; of the Holy of holies (see καταπέτασμα), Matthew 27:51; Mark 15:38; Luke 23:45. in the visions of the Revelation used of the temple of the 'New Jerusalem': Revelation 3:12; Revelation 7:15; Revelation 11:19; Revelation 14:15, 17; Revelation 15:5f, 8; Revelation 16:1, 17; of any temple whatever prepared for the true God, Acts 7:48 Rec.; Acts 17:24. of miniature silver temples modeled after the temple of Diana (i. e. Artemis (which see)) of Ephesus, Acts 19:24. ὁ Θεός ναός αὐτῆς ἐστιν, takes the place of a temple in it, Revelation 21:22. metaphorically, of a company of Christians, a Christian church, as dwelt in by the Spirit of God: 1 Corinthians 3:16; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Ephesians 2:21; for the same reason, of the bodies of Christians, 1 Corinthians 6:19. of the body of Christ, ὁ ναός τοῦ σώματος αὐτοῦ (epexegetical genitive (Winer's Grammar, 531 (494))), John 2:21, and according to the Evangelist's interpretation in 19 also. ((From Homer on.))
It is 1st used in Luke concerning John the Baptist' father, who was a Priest of the course of Abjah and he is seen in the Sanctuary of God during the hour of making and burning incense.
He is also visited by the Arch Angel Gabriel who announces the future birth of John the Baptist.

It appears to be the only place outside of Revelation showing a Priest performing this ceremony in the NT.
G3485 is 1st used in Luke in only 4 verses

Luke 1 YLT
Luke 1:
8And it came to pass, in his acting as priest, in the order of his course before God, 9according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot was to make perfume, having gone into the Sanctuary of the Lord, 10and all the multitude of the people were praying without, at the hour of the perfume.
11And there appeared to him a Messenger of the Lord standing on the right side of the Altar of the perfume, 12and Zacharias, having seen, was troubled, and fear fell on him;
13and the Messenger said unto him, ‘Fear not, Zacharias! for thy supplication was heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear a son to thee, and thou shalt call his name John,
14and there shall be joy to thee, and gladness, and many at his birth shall joy, 15for he shall be great before the Lord, and wine and strong drink he may not drink, and of the Holy Spirit he shall be full, even from his mother’s womb; 16and many of the sons of Israel he shall turn to the Lord their God, 17and he shall go before Him, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn hearts of fathers unto children, and disobedient ones to the wisdom of righteous ones, to make ready for the Lord, a people prepared.’
18And Zacharias said unto the Messenger, ‘Whereby shall I know this? for I am aged, and my wife is advanced in her days?’ 19And the messenger answering said to him, ‘I am Gabriel, who have been standing near before God, and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to proclaim these good news to thee, 20and lo, thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, till the day that these things shall come to pass, because thou didst not believe my words, that shall be fulfilled in their season.’
21And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and wondering at his tarrying in the Sanctuary, 22and having come out, he was not able to speak to them, and they perceived that a vision he had seen in the Sanctuary, and he was beckoning to them, and did remain dumb.
23And it came to pass, when the days of his service were fulfilled, he went away to his house,
24and after those days, his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying — 25‘Thus hath the Lord done to me, in days in which He looked upon [me], to take away my reproach among men.’
Luk 23:45
and the sun was darkened, and the Veil of the Sanctuary was rent in the midst,

The location of the temple at the beginning of Revelation chapter 11 is found later in the passage.

Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
Rev 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Is earthly Jerusalem the "holy city" in Revelation 11?
The answer is found below.

Rev 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

There are two cities described below by the Apostle Paul.

Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Which one is the "holy city" found in Revelation 11:1?

The word "Sanctuary"<3485>
You have to start at the Beginning. This is the first letter in the Bible: B. The letter B represents a tent that people dwell in. Moses develops this idea of a tent with the tabernacle that contains the Holy of Holies. This is where Creator dwells with His Creation. Later on the tabernacle becomes a temple in Jerusalem. In the New Testament we the Church are the Temple of God. WE provide a sanctuary for God to dwell in. If you are talking about the New Jerusalem that is the entire Arab Continental plate: 1500 by 1500 by 1500 miles. The pattern remains the same as it was with the Tabernacle in the desert.

As I have just shown, the word "Temple" is never once used in Revelation.
Use a better Bible version like YLT which renders words lie Age, Land/World, Gehenna, Temple, Sanctuary more accurately.

G1067 (YLT)

Matthew 23:33
"Serpents! offspring of vipers! how? ye may be fleeing from the judging<2920> of the Gehenna <1067>

OC Jerusalem and Lake of Fire
*edit*
I would like to ask other fellow others here if it is possible, and even scriptural, that whatever City is being symbolized here, if it is possible it could also symbolize the "lake of fire"? Thoughts?
I voted option 1...1st century Jerusalem

Once again, the word "Temple" is not in Revelation.......

As I showed in a previous post, Luke 1:11 shows Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, performing his priestly duties and the Arch Angel Gabriel standing at the right side of the Golden Altar of Incense:

Luke:1
8And it came to pass, in his acting as priest, in the order of his course before God, 9according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot was to make perfume, having gone into the Sanctuary of the Lord, 10and all the multitude of the people were praying without, at the hour of the perfume.

The Golden Altar of Incense (The Tabernacle)

The Golden Altar of Incense was 2 cubits tall.
It was 1 cubit square with a crown of gold around the top and it had 4 golden horns

It was the Golden Altar of Incense which was straight ahead, before the veil, this third piece of furniture in the Holy Place on which the holy incense was burned. Made from acacia wood overlaid with pure gold it stood higher than any other article of furniture in the holy place, 2 cubits (3 feet) tall.
It was one cubit square and it had around the top a crown of gold. It had four golden horns just as the bronze altar in the courtyard. Lower down on each side there were golden rings to insert the poles for carrying.
Exod 30:1-10 "You shall make an altar to burn incense on; you shall make it of acacia wood. A cubit shall be its length and a cubit its width-- it shall be square-- and two cubits shall be its height. Its horns shall be of one piece with it. And you shall overlay its top, its sides all around, and its horns with pure gold; and you shall make for it a molding of gold all around. Two gold rings you shall make for it, under the molding on both its sides. You shall place them on its two sides, and they will be holders for the poles with which to bear it. You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. And you shall put it before the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you. Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it. And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations. You shall not offer strange incense on it, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering; nor shall you pour a drink offering on it. And Aaron shall make atonement upon its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement; once a year he shall make atonement upon it throughout your generations. It is most holy to the LORD."
- It had 4 horns of gold, one with it, a horn on each corner. (4-camps, e.Judah, s.Ruben, w.Ephraim, n.Dan, all Gods people)

The golden altar was used for burning incense, which twice every day was offered by the priest after he had tended the wick and oil on the holy lamps. Its horns were also sprinkled with the blood of the sin offering.

The incense was a mixture of three rich and rare spices, which cannot be identified today. These were blended with frankincense and beaten to a fine powder and then salt was added. It was totally forbidden for this formula to be used by any private individual. It had to be used only in the worship of God in the holy place.
Ex 30:34-38 And the LORD said to Moses: "Take sweet spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, and pure frankincense with these sweet spices; there shall be equal amounts of each. You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure, and holy. And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put some of it before the Testimony in the tabernacle of meeting where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you. But as for the incense which you shall make, you shall not make any for yourselves, according to its composition. It shall be to you holy for the LORD. Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people."
The incense was burnt on pieces of hot coal, which the priest removed in a censer or fire pan from the altar of burnt offering in the courtyard. A censer apparently was a shallow bowl or pan with a handle on it. It could be also be used for removing the ashes from the altar or gathering up the burnt parts of the wick from the lampstand.

The golden altar was used for burning incense

Poured out on burning coals the incense produced a delightful aroma in the Holy Place. It was the offering of the person whose sins had been forgiven by blood and who then went on to express the fragrance of love and worship, which was most pleasing to God.

The Golden Altar speaks to us of the worship of Jesus Christ and God's people through him as our high priest and mediator. It was only on the basis of His one sacrifice on the altar of the cross that worship is made possible. The coals, which lit the incense, was carried from the altar of sacrifice to the altar of incense.
Lev 16:12 "Then Aaron shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from the altar before the LORD, with his hands full of sweet incense beaten fine, and bring it inside the veil.
- The sweet incense was to be kept burning at all times.

- It was before the veil, and the throne of God (Jesus for us)
On The Journey
Num 4:11 "Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth, and cover it with a covering of badger skins; and they shall insert its poles.
Example of Moses' intercession:
Num 16:41-50 On the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron, saying, "You have killed the people of the LORD." Now it happened, when the congregation had gathered against Moses and Aaron, that they turned toward the tabernacle of meeting; and suddenly the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared. Then Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of meeting. And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment." And they fell on their faces. So Moses said to Aaron, "Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the LORD. The plague has begun." Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped. Now those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died in the Korah incident. So Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of meeting, for the plague had stopped.
STAR3.gif
A Type of Christ

The golden altar of incense tells us of the ministry of Jesus as our intercessor whose prayers never stop ascending to God on our behalf. Jesus said to Peter, "I have prayed for you." The four horns speak of Christ's ministry extending to the four corners of the earth. He will always pray for His own no matter where they are. He can intercede on our behalf because of the atoning work on the cross of Calvary. The incense was fueled by the fire from the altar. It is not just anyone praying for us but the King Himself as represented by the crown of gold. He knows our weaknesses and our failings and He is praying for us always.

=============================
John appears to be in a type of OC wilderness Tabernacle, where he sees a Menorah with 7 golden candlesticks [or 7 Menorahs?].

Revelation 1:
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind<3694> me a loud Voice, as of a trumpet,
12 Then I turned<1994> to see the Voice that spoke with me.
And having turned<1994> I saw seven golden Lampstands<3087>,
13 and in the midst of the seven Lampstands [One] like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the paps with a golden band.

While he is standing there, he hears a Voice BEHIND him.
He TURNS and sees Jesus in midst of lamp-stands. ["turn" can also mean convert]

Symbolically, John would have been facing the OC Table of Show bread...North.

The Golden Altar
and inner curtain, Ark of Covenant would have been on his left...West

Then be turns, facing Jesus and the Lamp-stands...South

The outer veil/entrance would then be on his left .....East

In essence, John is first facing the Table of OC Show-bread and when he turns, he sees the NC "Living Bread", Jesus,

John 6:
48 I am the bread of life.
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven.
If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.
And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.”

Revelation 11:
1 And was given to me a reed like-as rod saying "rouse! and measure! the Sanctuary<3485> of God and the Altar[Golden Altar] and those worshiping in it

Something perhaps interesting to note would be the following.

Revelation 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Assuming the above is to be understood like such---

And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure (1)the sanctuary of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
But the court which is without the sanctuary leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto (2)the Gentiles: and (3)the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Daniel 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

and (2)the people of the prince that shall come(Revelation 13:3-8) shall destroy (3)the city and (1)the sanctuary

Both passages mention a sanctuary, a city, and a people destroying it. On the surface that might appear to fit with what occurred in 70 AD. But if the prince that shall come is meaning the beast in Revelation 13 though, a 70 AD interpretation of Daniel 9:26 and Revelation 11:1-2 are unlikely in that case.

IMO anyway, the destroying of the city and sanctuary is not meaning in a literal sense, as in it involving a literal city, etc.

Rev 3:12
He who is overcoming -- I will make him a pillar in the Sanctuary of my God, and without he may not go any more, and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, that doth come down out of the heaven from my God -- also my new name.

Rev 7:15

and them that worship therein] Lit. in it, not “in them,” i.e. in the Temple, the mention of “the Altar” being parenthetical. But neither the Temple (in the narrower sense) nor the Altar was ordinarily a place of spiritual “worship,” but only of the ritual “service of God.” Therefore the meaning of the Temple and Altar must be to some extent spiritualised: even if the prophecy be concerned with God’s judgements on Jerusalem and the Jewish people, we are not to understand that the actual Temple was to be spared (for we know it was not): but, most probably, that the true Israelites would not be cut off from communion with God, even when their city and the earthly splendours of their Temple were destroyed. Ezekiel 11:16 will thus illustrate the sense of the passage, though there does not appear to be a conscious reference to it.
=================
Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
And the altar, and them that worship therein; yet not the whole church, but that part of it which the inner court typified; the altar, and those that worshipped within that space where that was, which of old were only the priests and Levites; and under the New Testament signified those who were to be a holy priesthood, a spiritual house, those that should offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 2:5, who could endure a measuring by God’s reed, the word of God.
==================
Pulpit Commentary
And the altar, and them that worship therein. The altar of incense alone stood within the ναός; but this may be only an accessory detail in the general description, and not to be pressed to a particular interpretation.
"Them that worship therein" directs our thoughts to the individual members of the one body which collectively is "the temple."

I could only find 2 versions that have it in that verse:

Revelation 11:2 But exclude the courtyard outside the temple. Do not measure it, because it has been given over to the nations, and they will trample the holy city for 42 months.

Meyer's NT Commentary
ἜΚΒΑΛΕ ἜΞΩ. The casting out, viz., beyond the reach of that which is to be measured, is determined, according to the sense as well as the form of the idea, by the parallel addition, καὶ μὴ αὐτὴν μετρήσῃς;[2813] yet in the significant expression[2814] the point must not be overlooked, which Eichh. alone, and without the textual reference to the boundaries of the space to be measured, in his unhappy paraphrase makes equivalent to “declare profane.”[2815]

leave out] Hardly a strong enough expression: the original is, “cast out outside.” The sense must be, “leave out for profanation.” This excludes the hypothesis (otherwise not without plausibility) that the measurement of the Temple is for destruction, not for preservation: see 2 Kings 21:13; Lamentations 2:8 :—and for the destruction being regarded as the work of the prophet, cf. Ezekiel 43:3.

The COURT. Definitions and along with 12 verses in Revelation......

Used mainly in conjunction with the 1st century OC Priesthood........

Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon

STRONGS NT 833: αὐλή
αὐλή, -ῆς, ἡ, (ἄω to blow; hence) properly, a place open to the air (διαπνεόμενος τόπος αὐλὴ λέγεται, Athen. 5, 15, p. 189 b.);
1. among the Greeks in Homer's time an uncovered space around the house, enclosed by a wall, in which the stables stood (Homer, Odyssey 9, 185; Iliad 4, 433); hence, among the Orientals that roofless enclosure in the open country in which flocks were herded at night, a sheepfold: John 10:1, 16.
2. the uncovered court-yard of the house, Hebrew חָצֵר, the Sept. αὐλή, Vulg. atrium. In the O. T. particularly of the courts of the tabernacle and of the temple at Jerusalem; so in the N. T. once: Revelation 11:2 (τὴν αὐλὴν τήν ἔξωθεν [Rec.st ἔσωθεν] τοῦ ναοῦ). The dwellings of the higher classes usually had two αὐλαί, one exterior, between the door and the street, called also προαύλιον (which see); the other interior, surrounded by the buildings of the dwelling itself. The latter is mentioned Matthew 26:69 (where ἔξω is opposed to the room in which the judges were sitting); Mark 14:66; Luke 22:55. Cf. Winers RWB under the word Häuser; [B. D. American edition under the word Court; BB. DD. under the word House].
3. the house itself, a palace: Matthew 26:3, 58; Mark 14:54; Mark 15:16; Luke 11:21; John 18:15, and so very often in Greek writings from Homer, Odyssey 4, 74 down [cf. Eustathius 1483, 39 τῷ τῆς αὐλῆς ὀνόματι τὰ δώματα δηλοῖ, Suidas col. 652 c. αὐλή· ἡ τοῦ βασιλέως οἰκία. Yet this sense is denied to the N. T. by Meyer neuter plural; see Meyer on Matthew, the passage cited].

G833 αὐλή (aulē) occurs 12 times in 12 verses

Mat 26:3
Then the chief priests, the scribes and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
Mat 26:58

But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard.
And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end.
Mat 26:69
Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”

Mar 14:54
But Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.
Mar 14:66
Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came.
Mar 15:16
Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison.

Luk 11:21
“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace.
Luk 22:55
Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.

Jhn 10:1
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
Jhn 10:16
“And other I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
Jhn 18:15
And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.

Revelation 11:2
and the Court/Fold<833> without of the Sanctuary, be casting-out!<ἔκβαλε/ekbale1544> outside/without<1854> and no it thou should be measuring, that it was given to the Gentiles/Nations.

Meyer's NT Commentary
Revelation 11:2.
Καὶ τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν ἕξωθεν, κ.τ.λ. Incorrectly, Luther: “The inner choir,” after a bad variation. Also Vitr., Ewald,[2809] Züll., object not only to the expression, but also to what was said in Revelation 11:1, since they conceive of τ. αὐλ. τὴν ἔξωθεν τοῦ ναοῦ in the sense of Τ. ΑὐΛ. ΤῊΝ ἘΞΩΤΈΡΑΝ Τ. Ν., and distinguish[2810] an outer and an inner court, the latter of which, as belonging to the ΝΑΌς, is measured with it. But the expression ἜΞΩΘ. Τ. Θ.[2811] confirms rather the idea given, Revelation 11:1, of the ΝΑΌς alone to be measured, i.e., the proper temple-building, outside of which the ΑὐΛΉ, i.e., the entire space of the court, lies.[2812] Arbitrarily, the ΑὐΛΉ is interpreted by Weiss: “the congregation of unbelieving Jews.”

the court which is without the temple] The words might be translated “the outer court of the Temple.” It must be remembered that “the courts of the Lord’s House” were the ordinary place for the worshippers to assemble, even before the outer and larger “Court of the Gentiles,” with its magnificent colonnades, was added to Herod’s Temple. Probably the latter is thought of, in its assignment to the Gentiles: but the meaning appears to be, that all the courts shall be profaned, up to the walls of the inmost Sanctuary.

Bengel's Gnomen
Revelation 11:2.
Τὴν αὐλὴν) In the tabernacle of Moses, in the temple of Solomon, and in the temple of Ezekiel, the Septuagint usually puts αὐλὴ for the Hebrew חצר. A court in the open air is meant (in which חציר, grass, readily grows); wherefore there follows, τὴν ἔξωθεν τοῦ ναοῦ. Ἔσωθεν in some places has crept in, for ἔξωθεν:[109] but this ΑὐΛῊ, since it is the only one, cannot possibly be within the temple, from which it is contradistinguished. Also in Ezekiel 8:16, it is חצר פנימית. But here mention is made only of the outer court (in contradistinction to the temple): which in the measuring ought not to be reckoned as a part of the temple, but as it is an outer court, so it ought to be regarded as outside the temple. The reading ἜΞΩΘΕΝ is much more strongly supported by manuscripts.—ἜΞΩΘΕΝ—ἜΞΩ)
========================
Pulpit Commentary
Verse 2. -
But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles; it hath been given (Revised Version). Not merely "leave out," but "cast out." The "court which is without the temple" was entered only by Jews. It seems, therefore, here to signify part of the Church, but that part which is separated from the inner circle of true believers, and given over to the world, which is here symbolized by "the Gentiles." The Gentiles, the nations, throughout the Apocalypse, signifies either

(1) all mankind whatsoever; or
(2) that portion of mankind which is left when the true Church of God is withdrawn, and therefore which embraces the unrighteous part of mankind in contrast to the godly (cf. Revelation 2:26; Revelation 14:8; Revelation 16:19; Revelation 18:23; 22:22).
The latter is the signification here. And the holy city shall they tread underfoot. The holy city - Jerusalem - always in the Apocalypse the type of the Church. "They shall tread" need not necessarily refer to "the nations," though the context naturally leads to this signification; but it may be impersonal, amounting to no more than "the holy city shall be trodden underfoot."

Any other views on this before I continue?
It is good to look up the Greek on every word, but what is more important is this: what was in the mind of the Author, the Holy Spirit, as He caused John to write?

What event is about to take place that will cause the city to be trodden by Gentiles for the next 42 months? Next, what time is it in John's narrative? How close is it to the midpoint of the week?

We know from Paul that the man of sin is going to enter the most holy place in a temple and declare to the world that he is God. Does it make sense that to accomplish this, he must first arrive in Jerusalem?

This is what is happening behind the scenes here: John was in heaven so did not see the man of sin arrive; but this is why the city will be trampled: the man of sin will arrive in Jerusalem, probably just 3 1/2 days before he will enter the temple. He will arrive with his gentile (probably Islamic) armies - who will then trample the city from that day on.

The two witnesses are sent at that time, because the Man of sin just arrived. We can tell that they show up in Jerusalem just 3 1/2 days before the man of sin will enter the temple. Therefore only 3 1/2 days of these testimony will be in the first half of the week - the rest in the second half.

So the man of sin arrives in Jerusalem, and probably seconds later, the Two Witnesses arrive. Three days later, the man of sin will enter the temple and declare he is God, causing the daily sacrifices to cease - exactly as Daniel predicted. The 7th trumpet will sound in heaven notifying heaven that the midpoint of the week has arrived and the days of GT will soon follow.

As further proof of this, in 12:6 we see those in Judea begin to flee because they have just seen the abomination Jesus spoke of.

Is it possible to have daily sacrifices without a temple? Certainly; but John was told to measure a real "brick and mortar" temple. A temple with people inside worshiping.

The "time of the judgment of the dead", and "wrath", and "reward", and destruction in Revelation 11:18 reveal the Book of Revelation is not in chronological order.
The 7th trumpet is the end, instead of the middle, of the tribulation period.
