I need some input. Do you feel this is an appropriate prayer to include in our wedding program? I found it on a website some time ago and I just think it's very pretty. If I remember correctly, it was a website of Orthodox prayers...

Lord Jesus Christ, by Your presence You blessed the
wedding in Cana and showed us that You are the true priest
of mystical and pure marriage. We thank You for the day on
which by Your heavenly blessing You joined us in the
sacrament of marriage. Lord, continue to bless and enrich
our marriage in love companionship, mutual support,
oneness of heart and progress in faith and life. Protect
our Holy wedlock from sin, evil and danger. Nurture
between us the spirit of understanding, the spirit of
forgiveness and the spirit of peace, that no resentment,
quarrel or other problem may cause us to stumble and fall.
Grant us to see our own faults and not to judge each
other. Keep our bond of love always new. Gladden our lives
with the joys of marriage, that with one heart we may
praise and glorify You. Amen.

That's a beautiful prayer, but isn't the wedding service a set ceremony. I've only been to two weddings (both orthodox) and the prayers are already compiled just like all of the other sacraments. From what I remember the bride and groom don't say anything at all, so I am trying to figure out how this is supposed to fit into everything.

If you wish to put it into the "bullitan" that you give out it wouldn't matter if it was a part of the actual wedding service. It is a nice prayer. Of course, your Priest would have the final say on this matter.

Keep in mind that if you are having an Orthodox wedding, the prayers are written already and your Priest will go over them with you. In my little church, the people attending the church are reading the wedding ceremony that we have copies enough for everyone to read during the ceremony. (And they can chant along with the choir too.)

The bride and groom only say things like "Yes, Father" etc.

Orthodox wedding services are sacremental. I think it is a wonderful service.

I'm waiting for an answer to email to my priest (well, two emails at this point, and I'm just gonna call him tomorrow if I don't hear back).

Yes, the ceremony is set, but I'd like to put this on the program (with names etc stuff). A little bit more Orthodoxy to all my heathen relatives and friends might nudge them a bit to think about things.

It certainly is Orthodox. You can see it here: http://www.transchurch.org/sguide/praybk.htm

under "prayer of married persons".

But, oh those silly Greeks! When WILL they learn to use "Thee" and "Thou"?!?! :p

Yups, that's the website! Thank you! It was one of the bookmarks that probably was on the fried and well cooked computer.

My friends put the entire text ofo the service, along with commentary blurbs about each part of the service, the symbolism, what is happening, etc in their booklets. Do you want me to see if they have the file saved and I could send it to you? It wasn't fancy, just printed on regular paper (since it was at least 8 pages long) and folded into a book secured with ribbon, but it was SUPER informative.

I have ordered the little white booklets 'Holy Matrimony' from OCA with the whole service in them. I'm just donating them to the church after the wedding.

This prayer would go in the little program I would give out to our guests, like names, attendants, and In Memoriam/Memory Eternal of our closest relatives who have passed away.

It would be great if you could, thank you! It might help out a bit more.
