“Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, ‘Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:50-57 NASB1995)

As those who are of genuine biblical faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, when we die physically, our physical bodies will not go to be with Jesus. Our spirits will be with the Lord while our physical bodies will remain on the earth. And when Jesus Christ returns to take his faithful ones to be with him for eternity, he will raise our bodies, and he will transform them to glorified bodies, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. This is my understanding.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 NASB1995)
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21 NASB1995)

And when we go to be with the Lord when we die and/or when he returns to take his faithful ones to be with him for eternity, and we are no longer living in these flesh bodies, we also will no longer be in pain. We will no longer sin. Sin will not be with the Lord. Suffering will be no more because we no longer live on this sinful earth in flesh bodies. And we will no longer have Satan attacking us and his servants fighting against us to try to bring us down.

Also, when Jesus returns for his faithful ones, and he transforms our earthly bodies to be in conformity with the body of his glory, and he takes us to be with him for eternity, this is the time when our salvation will be complete. And our spiritual marriage to Christ will be consummated. For while we live on the earth, by God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in Jesus we are being made holy, and we are in the process of being saved from our sins. But we must continue in these walks of faith for us to have eternal life with God.

[Matthew 10:22; John 8:31-32; John 15:1-12; Romans 8:24; Romans 11:17-24; Romans 13:11; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 1 Corinthians 15:1-2; Colossians 1:21-23; 2 Timothy 1:8-9; 2 Timothy 2:10-13; Hebrews 3:6,14-15; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 1:5,9; 2 Peter 1:5-11; 1 John 2:24-25]

And so I see a parallel meaning to this passage from a spiritual perspective, not having to do with the second coming of Christ, but with our salvation from sin through faith in the Lord Jesus. For when it states that flesh (and blood) cannot inherit the kingdom of God, it is true that if we are still living by our flesh, and not by the Spirit, and still in deliberate and habitual sin against God, and not in walks of obedience to his commands, that we will not have salvation from sin, and we will not inherit eternal life with God.

And when we believe in Jesus Christ with the childlike faith that the Scriptures describe, a faith which comes from God and is gifted to us by God, and which is persuaded of God, and is not of our own doing, we die with Christ to sin that we might now live for him and his righteousness. And we are changed, not like when Christ returns, but if our faith is of God, and not of human flesh, sin will no longer be what we practice, but obedience to our Lord will be our practice, by the grace of God, in the power of God.

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
