Hello Everyone,

I'm going to start working with my church on doing some new things with their marriage ministry.

I'm getting together this Tuesday (January 17th) to brainstorm some ideas for fun nights at the church for couples. We're thinking of having something once a quarter.

Any ideas you have are greatly appreciated. Right now we've been talking about having a game night. We have a nice big fellowship hall and a great kitchen, so we'll be able to do this right at the church.

Thanks for all your help!

God Bless!

I know a good game.

It's called, "Pin the tail on the chick that keeps starting threads on submission"

Of course, this can only apply if one of the ladies in your group has an annoying tendency to bring up topics dealing with submission.

If that doesn't work out, there's always Bible Pictionary.

My husband, who isn't even a member here, loved your submission. Thanks for giving us a large chuckle. :D

Well, I don't know how many people in my church are members here on CF and I don't think that will be a requirement for attending the get-togethers. But I must say, I doubt anyone else will give me this suggestion. :D

Newlywed games are also always lots of fun.

But you can change the questions so that they apply to both newlyweds and oldyweds.

Can always count on you to make me look like an idiot. . .

Mom, why are you laughing? Mom, whats up with you? Mom, get a life! Oh, geez, Mom!

My couples Sunday School class always has a blast when we get together to play games. Catch Phrase, Taboo, Charades, and games that would work well for large teams....you could divide up men verses women or just divide equally.

Also, the Valentine's idea is great. And you maybe could talk to the teen group in your church to see if they'd be willing to organize some activities/childcare for the couples during your activities. It'd be a good opportunity for them to participate in their own ministry and a well needed break for the parents.

Is this a mixed ages group or more focused on a particular age?
Did you say you are brainstorming this Tues . night? Are you meeting with the couples or is there a committee you are meeting with?

Holidays are always ideal themes to work around. Do you plan to have a time of spiritual emphasis at these fellowships or is it strictly for fun & fellowship?

As for Tues. night - the brainstorming - is everyone bringing food or do you have to get it all done yourself.

Quick easy - burgers & chips, drinks & desert. Or burgers, potato salad , baked beans, drinks & desert. Have a questionare ready to hand out if you can come up with some questions you would like to ask or find a questionare to copy. If it was not so late I could go upstairs & find one from a ministry book I have . If it is coooooold where you are - for Tues. night - a chili supper: chili, crackers, salad, light desert, drinks.

If I knew what age group you are working with perhaps I could suggest a few ideas. Feb . is excellent - have a nice dinner, candle light, etc. If you can get someone to build you a backdrop - we did one using a couple of sheets of lattice work & pretty valentine gift wrap down the center of each piece - greenery on the edges and a seat in between. Make pictures - if possible make the instant kind & give everyone their picture to take home. Also, if you have an arch that you could decorate with greenery and red & white netting with a valentine hanging at the top & a wraught iron bench to sit on - would be very nice backdrop. Try to secure someone to sing an appropriate song & perhaps someone to speak on a valentine/love theme for say 15 min.

Like I said if you could share what age & more specific what type activity you want - we might could come up with some good ones. My older sister has done such a good job with her group I have begged her to write a book. I know someone out there is very creative & will have some good advise for you.

Hi and thanks so much for you in-depth post!

I am somewhat new at this church, having attended since last Spring. There hasn't been any specific marriage event since we've attended. I get the impression things have been done in the past, but not lately.

I'm meeting with one other woman. We had both (separately) approached the church with bringing in husband & wife guest speakers whose focus is family/marriage ministry. So, we are getting together to put together ideas for quarterly marriage events. I would think we will get others involved as well, but this is not a group meeting on Tuesday.

I believe this will be for couples of all ages. The other woman said she wants to plan "fun" events -
where the couples can come out, have a fun time as a couple and getting to know some of the other couples in a relaxed atmosphere.

I hope this helps with what you're looking for and appreciate you input very much! Thanks again.

board games are always a hit.

themed dinners like all appetizers or all vegetarian or a taco bar, baked potato bar etc

have all the couples bring a baby photo of themselves as well as a recent one. Match them together, for bonus points match the spouses too!

maybe a movie night together. Something classic and romantic might be nice

I cant really think of much now. . .sorry
