Hi; I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone had any input or experience in this matter. Last week, I heard a knock at the door. Two knocks. (I have a doorbell, btw) It was wee hours of the morning; I'm guessing around 3 or 4. It startled me awake but I ignored it because I figured it must be some kind of hypnogogic auditory thing as it has happened before, although it had been over a year since it was a knocking. I wouldn't put much thought on it except that about an hour or hour and a half later it happened again: Two knocks. I've googled it etc and the best I could find were people trying to say it was Jesus knocking. However, I am saved and Christ lives in me, and I did not feel like a "God presence" when I woke to these knocks. I am not saying it wasn't God, I'm just saying, I didn't feel anything. I actually said to God after the second knocks, "Am I supposed to pray? Is everything okay? Lord, whatever is going on, make everything okay." No judgment--I was tired! Anyone else? Anything? Thanks so much for any kind of response.

Welcome! That is a tough one! I would take it before the Lord in prayer.
I have! I have searched online and it is really hard to find christians who are willing to talk about this kind of thing. I know I can't be the only one.

I doubt the Lord was knocking. You could have dreamed the knocks. Maybe it was a real person. And then the question arises, should you answer the door at that hour of night? I would be reluctant to do so.

It wasn't a dream, but I had a dream earlier in the night and in this dream I was with some people in a place where there were pews and one of the people knocked on the top of the pew twice. Now THAT was a dream. The hypnogogic auditory knocking is exactly that; but is it spiritual and if it is, what does it mean? It may mean nothing. It could mean I have to stop eating Panda Express before I go to bed. lol

Okay, it wasn't a dream. Did the knocks wake you up or were you already awake?

The dream you mentioned reminded me of a dream I had when my mother was dying. I was in her church with her, and several other people were standing around. One of them seemed to be beckoning my mother.

The knocks woke me out of a dead sleep; or so it seemed.

It could have been a dream. I have something similar happen to me once in a while. I check the door and nobody's there.

How long did you search for an answer?
I have had similar things, but that was before i was saved.
I guess i had invited some demonic influences in my life in my spiritual (and drug use) days...
It all stopped when i came to the faith and rebuked my spiritual past.
It was as if God shut that door right there and then.

Praying is the first thing to do.
Knocking in the middle of the dark night doesn't sound like God to me at all.
Any people in your life who are into spiritism, or maybe you in the past?
Maybe you have some items in your house that might be related to spiritism?
I don't know.

Well, it's not the first time I've heard knocking and I have enough skeletons in my closet from the early days to host a Halloween party to fill Manhattan. I'm not even going to pretend. I have repented etc so if they're still hanging around, they're very bored. lol Also, unsaved husband (who was out of town the night I experienced this) and four adult unsaved children. Three of which reside with us. Nobody is doing ouija boards or anything funky, but there is that. So, I don't know. What I DO know is that there are a whole lot of supernatural things I experience(d) and if this is unnerving to people, I don't know where else to go with this. I want a strictly christian POV and this is the junk drawer.

Let me add one more thing... it's important that we don't dismiss these kinds of experiences with people because one of the reasons I decided that God MUST be real was because if evil was real, so was God. I don't have to see God to believe. I don't have to see angels or hear music etc. I have seen the darker side of spiritual matters and THAT in and of itself is my proof of God. Weird as that may be, and I promise that I won't be the only one you come across that feels that way.

So yeah, probably a little monster demon. Thank goodness I didn't get wound up over it or even excited. I literally whispered a two second prayer and went promptly back to sleep, relatively unaffected. This thread is more from a heart of curiosity than concern. :)

Hi Geoghegan,

To some extent, I can understand a part of where you're coming from. And even though I can't say that I've ever had any supernatural experiences in my life, whether good or evil, I can say that part of my belief in God is supported by my recognition of a certain kind of Evil in the world that I perceive, and this recognition "tells me" there is also a God (specifically the God of the Bible).

As to your dreams about knocks at the door, and assuming these weren't real knocks at the door in the middle of the night, I'm going to take a leap and say that they are probably inferences to feelings of being "intruded in upon" in some way, perhaps a concern about whether you should open the door to whatever is on the other side. Whether this is for the good or for the bad, I can't say. I'm just giving you my best guess as one who is educated in the social sciences.

Peace,
2PhiloVoid
