In response to the July 26 Paris Olympics opening ceremony that mocked the Last Supper — and after the French bishops and other Catholic and world leaders decried the display — the Vatican on Saturday issued a statement denouncing the scene.

In a brief statement emailed to journalists in French, the Holy See said it “was saddened by certain scenes at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games and cannot but join the voices raised in recent days to deplore the offense done to many Christians and believers of other religions.”

“In a prestigious event where the whole world comes together around common values, there should not be allusions ridiculing the religious convictions of many people,” the statement continued.

Amen, I was hoping the Vatican would speak up. Finally, it happened.
Unfortunately the other side view themselves as some kind of weird freedom fighters for what they consider to be free speech and expression. Thing is though if you had somewhat the same making light of THEIR world view what a unkind insensitive group they'd be considered to be!

The left say they want to be inclusive, when in reality, the far-left are just as close minded as the MAGAs, if not even worse. Glad I am closer to the center.

Interesting. So would your answer be someone in the middle that can bring people together? Is that possible? Here's one thing I found interesting about Trump. Years before he wrote a well received book entitled, "The Art of the Deal" It was suggested he could make a deal with anyone in opposition and that once President they would find his administration kind of boring for everybody would get along. He knew HOW to make deals. Regardless of how positive one might want to be about Trump that's just something he wasn't able to demonstrate at least I don't think.

Is it possible for ANYONE to have such expertise when it comes to showing diplomacy in speech to almost be able to sell ice cubes to Eskimos and to turn your worst enemies into friends? Most certainly you can't if you deflate and be condescending about another's character. There is I believe though a type of person that could almost do this that is show forth great diplomacy and that would be like the type who take things like, Dale Carnegie courses, "How to Win Friends and Influence People"

Sounds like fluff, but they do cite example after example of people into extreme animosity and anger and to see it turned around into respectfully disagreeing, or gaining a consensus on something they can all agree.

Yes, someone like Peter Sonski would be in the middle. We need some classy old-school Democrats and Republicans like we had a few decades ago. Trump did know how to make deals, cos he is a master manipulator.

What’s wrong with the Vatican statement on the Olympic blasphemy? Nearly everything...

What’s wrong with the Vatican statement on the Olympic blasphemy? Nearly everything.

Start with the timing. More than a week passed between the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics and the release of the tepid Vatican response. During that week thousands of people had expressed their shock and anger over a deliberate insult to the Blessed Sacrament—the source and summit of the Catholic faith. So the world naturally turned to Rome for an authoritative response, and for several days heard—nothing at all.

Then when the Vatican did release a short statement, it was vouchsafed to the world on a Saturday afternoon. That is the time usually chosen by publicists who feel obliged to put something on the record, but do not want to capture public attention—the time to “bury” a news story.

I love how the left says Christians have no right to be offended and it's to about them.

Why do liberals hate the Catholic Church so much?

Is it because their own guilty conscience is bothering them and they don't believe in sin?

Who knows?

We are not woke enough as compared to other Christian sects.
