Do you believe that it is wrong to work under the table? I've heard my pastor say that it is lying, and I'd have to say I agree with now. I just recently finished a seasonal job and immediately got a job remodeling my friends moms house, which is under the table pay, and even picked up three days of work with her friend, more under the table pay. Ironically enough, all of them are Christians. Just wondering how others felt about this, or if there is anyway to pay taxes on this money after the fact. I feel like I just made a thousand bucks in dirty money.

You are the one who determines whether or not the income is "under the table." Report it, render unto Caesar, not under the table.

I also own a construction company and we often have customers who want to pay us cash to get a big discount because we "don't have to report the income." We report every penny. Many customers are shocked by this response. It's an opportunity to be a witness.

You didn't. It goes under "Other income".
My sister asked if I "fudged" on my taxes.
My wife, being an accountant, had her
professional reputation based on transparency.
I told my sister, not even by a dollar as far
as I knew.

There is an issue where being paid on an on-going
basis requires your "employer" to withhold social
security taxes. If they don't, you don't get the benefits
either.

Often, I have wondered, is God trying our hearts at this time? We call it “under the table”, I have too, but unlike mischievous lawlessness and the real criminal element, we are simply taking part in a temporary smaller marketplace. Lost gov’t revenue or the reduction of Christian liberty? A variable on both I think.

We are concerned for that portion we are responsible for which God has enabled us to labor for, but also entrusted us to be good stewards of with the gain too. We have knowledge that it goes to fund the very thing the Apostle said it would. Where many probably begin to drain off for justification is the responsibility isn’t being applied to what we destined it for from gov’t, and that we also have knowledge of.

My days of a specialized field given to helping out have pretty much passed, but if still engaged, I would be conservative about who and how much I chose to take on, for it carries aspects capable to beset our run for the prize, in other words, if you can continue to direct your efforts to the household of faith so long as lawlessness isn’t being tested.

Mike.

It's great work if you can get it. However, it's a risk for the employer and those they pay under the table.
Income tax is indentured servitude.
