President Donald Trump has demanded that Russia end its invasion of Ukraine or face punitive economic measures.

In a post to his social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump said he was "not looking to hurt Russia," adding that "I love the Russian people, and always had a very good relationship with President Putin."

"I'm going to do Russia, whose Economy is failing, and President Putin, a very big FAVOR. Settle now, and STOP this ridiculous War! IT'S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE," Trump said.

I had concerns about how President Trump would address the situation in Ukraine. However, I currently agree with his actions. It is ultimately up to the two leaders to decide how they wish to proceed and whether they desire peace.

This is just Biden's policy plus more. I don't expect Russia to be threatened by it and only continue the war till their main demands are granted, Crimea, the four oblasts and Ukranian neutrality.

I think you’re right, unfortunately.

It's not just President Biden's policy; supporting European countries against Russian aggression has been U.S. policy for 80 years since World War II. I doubted President Trump would follow to it, but I'm thankful he did. I believe Secretary Rubio played a significant role in this.

The problem is that this does not give Russia an incentive to end the war. What does more sanctions accomplish when Russia has already been sanctioned on its most important resources?

This only continues the conflict and means Ukraine will lose even more.

The primary incentive is achieving “peace.” End the conflict and establish peaceful relations with the West.

The primary incentive for Russia is its aims at Ukranian territory and desire for neutrality of Ukraine. If peace was the main incentive Putin would not have started this war.

Peace is not the main incentive for the US or Eruope either as Russian terms are more than clear and so both have continued to fund Ukraine and prolong the fighting. Peace is not the desire, rather a settlement in favour of each side's respective interests is the desire.

Yes, we all know Putin and Russian do not seek peace.

Today, Russian want to occupy part of Ukraine; tomorrow, it could be Latvia, and next week, Estonia.

The USA doesn’t, or at least it didn't, want peace as well. It has supported Ukraine's war effort which is antithetical to peace.

Neither side is pacifist and the USA by supporting Ukraine the way it had, had lead to the current deaths Ukraine has suffered because Ukraine feels like it doesn't have to compromise.

If the USA ceases its support for Ukraine, Ukraine will have no choice but surrender and cede part of its territory to Russia. Near future month, Russia will invade and occupy part of another country. Russian territorial ambitions is not hidden.

However, you think USA and European countries are being unreasonable by not accommodating Russia's ambition of occupying foreign territories.

Right. But then you and the USA don't desire peace but for Ukraine to continue the war. Your claim was that there is a desire for peace first, but in reality the only peace both sides want is one which favour's themselves.

I think the USA was unreasonable by trying to graft Ukraine into NATO.

Ukraine is a sovereign country, and if it wishes to join NATO, the USA and NATO nations welcome it. The USA does not force any country to join NATO. Sweden and Finland, long-time allies of the USA and NATO, joined NATO not because of pressure from the USA, but due to concerns about Russian aggression.

In which case you desire Ukranians to keep fighting on and not have peace unless it is on terms you deem acceptable. Ukranians need to be willing to die for this.

I think Ukraine consider ceding Crimea to Russia to end war and then pursuing membership in the EU and NATO.

Equally, Europe and the USA should consider expediting the process of granting membership to NATO and the EU for every democratic countries in Eastern Europe and establish a great peace with Russia.

Except Ukraine is losing and why would Russia hand the territory in the Donbass back?

So you want the war to expand to all of Europe against Russia? Do you want Russia to be totally capitulated? Is that peace? Escalating this to a total war?

We aim to extend peace to Russia as a united front. Our goal is for all of Europe to become part of NATO and establish a lasting peace with Russia.

Which Russia rejects. Thus you want the war to continue right? In order to secure this vision of the future, Ukraine must be prepared to sacrifice its population and prosperity.

I think it's abhorrent to advocate this because it is unrealistic but that isn't my issue. My issue is you claiming to want peace when what you truly want is Russian defeat.

Russia possesses nuclear weapons. A nation with such capabilities cannot be defeated without risking mass casualties and potentially catastrophic consequences, possibly even a return to a pre-industrial state.

For the past 80 years, the strategy of Western nations has been to contain Russia within its geographic boundaries rather than defeat it. However, Russia believes it is entitled to reclaim the regions lost at the end of the Cold War.

Ukraine could consider ceding part of its territory to Russia and agreeing to a treaty that precludes NATO membership. In turn, Western powers could assure Russia that no other European countries border to Russia would be granted NATO membership. Although this may temporarily appease Russia, the inevitable truth is Russia will regroup and target another Eastern country in the future.
